Can men and women ever 'just be friends' without there ever being a sexual aspect/attraction?

I've had pletonic girlfriends that I've gone clubbing with, out for meals, and other social events and intimacy was never an issue.
I believe it worked because neither of us was what the other found sexually attractive.
It only became an issue when we did start dating someone. Then jealousy from the third party became a problem.

I have many female friends and I have a sexual attraction to almost all of them. At some point or another, I have probably jerked off to half of them. But I don't do the crush thing. I don't get jealous if they get a boyfriend. I invite her boyfriend to the party and make him my best friend. Of course, I have sexual attraction. She is a girl.

How this is even a question to some people is absolutely beyond me. The logical conclusion of this question would be that every human being will always be sexually attracted to pretty much EVERY SINGLE member of my sexually prefered gender. Are you aware of this insane conclusion? This would mean that I, for instance, would feel sexually attracted to every single female adult (who's not my mom, sister, etc.)...

Of course they can! In my ROTC battalion I have a really nice female friend who I get along with magically, but we are very comfortable keeping it there. Now, she's pretty, don't get me wrong about that, but I feel no desires to start anything romantic or sexual with her. At the most, I'd want to get a hug from her, because that's what friends do.
