Why do some gay women (and others) feel the need to tell everyone their sexuality in their social media bios?

Why do so many gay women feel the need to tell the world how gay they are and advertise their sexuality? Like, damn. NO ONE CARES!
So sick of seeing this kind of trash write to me!
So sick of seeing this kind of trash write to me!
"I'm bi!"
"I'm a lesbian."
"Bisexual here!"
"LES."
"I love to sleep with other women!"
"[Rainbow flag and two-girls emoji]"

It's annoying to see this, because they're either fishing for simps who have such a lesbian fetish. Or they're virtue signaling and legitimately think being gay makes them special and wonderful. No one cares that you're gay! It's not a personality trait and it doesn't make you special! You never see straight people doing this. Do gay men even do this?

What is the reason?

  • You said it, they think they are special. You are also right in that no one cares so it makes you wonder why they make such a point of it unless they are hoping to escape guys perving on them with texts or messages. For some reason they just feel entitled. You know, give them an inch and they want a mile.

  • Its annoying but its honest. I wouldn't want to be hitting on a guy who’s bi/gay/trans or any of the lgbt. So please state it in your bio

    • Fair enough.

    • Seriously, all the guys i know who turned out to be one of those waited really late to tell the girl. It hurts to have to just drop all your built up feelings once you find out a major dealbreaker. So i say, be happy they’re advertising their sexuality. Makes it easier for you to keep swiping past em

What Girls & Guys Said

  • I think their attitude is "best defense is a good offense."

  • You say no one cares, but you clearly care a lot. It means nothing to me if people include their sexuality on their profile, much less a complete stranger. Your energy is wasted being mad about this kinda thing, best to just ignore it.

  • Because they are open to both guys and girl flirting with them.

Yes gay guys do similar, however a lot of guys don’t because of narrow minded bigots that feel the need to slag them off.

It’s a bit like going out, when chatting to a girl it’s nice to know if she is gay or in to guys and girls.

Admittedly on line I just assume a lot of Bi girls are just men (men are sad like that).

It’s actually good that a girl or guy feels confident enough to post that they are bi or gay, it keeps bigots in their box and gives them the finger.

  • Gay men did this first and worst. They literally march it down the street in drag.

    • I guess you have a point.

    • There's a shocking amount of bitter jealousy in "having" the things that normal couples have. Things they don't even actually want in general like marriage. You spend much time around gay men and you realize 80% of what you hear is either about their grudges or the things they want and are jealous others have. Well or bragging about what they acquired. The other 20% being sexual.

  • I think it's about the attention. While every person wants attention, I think girls might want it more sometimes so they find ways to get it and enjoy it when they do.

  • I'm wondering how many of these "women" are men posing as a woman.

  • Well you made a post about how much you hated them, so in your place I would appreciate them letting me know beforehand so I know not to interact with them

    • Yes. But I'm asking why they do this, in the first place. Independent of what I think. (And for the record, I don't dislike authentic gay people. Only "bisexuals.")

    • Probably to connect with others with the same interest

  • Attention whores.

  • It was just a simple statement. It wasn't like she was flashing it around or anything.

  • Its to keep men away.

  • Maybe they're just trying to advertise themselves to other women

  • That doesn't bother me as much as when they give a self absorbed long novel bio.

  • They complain because of discrimination , but there could be none if they wouldn't brag that they were.
