Would it be discrimination to block on sight people with revealing profile pics?

Would it be discrimination to block on sight people with revealing profile pics?
I'm considering it.
Not that I have anything personal against those users who have them as usually they share good opinions, but I feel like those pictures (and certain answers) do lower the quality in my questions generally.
So I'm considering deleting and blocking users who have such themes or pictures of themselves.

Superb Opinion

  • The problem I have with those accounts with revealing pics of women is that they’re usually as fake as a three-dollar bill. I think the experience on the site for many female users, even ones without pics, is so creepy, with guys trying to private message them and I guess hoping to engage in “dirty talk” or something, puts any real women in a position where they really can’t show themselves or they’d face constant harassment. I see level 1 male users almost everyday posting questions asking how to private message people, since the site doesn’t permit it... now why do you think they’re so keen to send messages right away?🤔 Point is, I think many women here learned quickly that you can’t have a pic up if you don’t want harassment, and that’s unfortunate. Meanwhile I’ve had a pic up for like five or six years, and MAYBE five or six times has anyone messaged me in a flirtatious manner, and maybe two of those times I even believed that it was really a woman on the other end😂 Internet is filled with weirdos, lmao, this ain’t the place to cruise for chicks. There are few regular “female” users here that have even been around for a while, like a year or so, and everything they write I’m just like “come on, it’s so obvious that you’re like a 50 year old dude pretending to be a 20 year old chick.”, just none of it adds up. One of these accounts, I’m half sure it was being operated by one of the regular male users who I personally consider to be kind of a looney toon. I’m not here to get into any politics but for the sake of a quick example, in America, Trump supporting men were having trouble getting dates, women categorically rejected them as prospects, like explicitly saying “swipe left if you support Trump” on Tinder and such. I honestly think there were some female accounts created here to create the illusion that more women were Trump supporters, I don’t know why, maybe to try to change people’s perception? I don’t know, whatever, but I SWEAR this one dude here who is a big Trump guy, like to a blindly allegiant point, he seems to think it’s: 1) God, 2) Jesus, 3) Trump. Then right as the election happened he disappeared and this young female account showed up at the same time, talking all kinds of pro-Trump stuff, the same way this guy would talk. And then after the Trump contesting of the election was over, that 19
year old female account disappeared and the middle aged guy was back lmfao. I don’t know for sure, but it’s very suspect to me. I don’t care, not about the person or the politics likely involved, I’m just saying I noticed.

So I say all that to say that any time you see a female account with their picture on here that’s past a low xper level and has been here a bit, I think they’ve probably figured out that’s nothing but annoyance for most of them, and anyone who still has a pic up, I suppose it could be to attract attention, but I’m usually somewhere in the 90+% range when it comes to being sure that it’s really a weird dude operating the account for some strange reasoning.

  • If we look at the second definition:
”recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another.”

Yes it's discrimination. No, discrimination is not inherently bad. For example, avoidance of ingesting lethal substances is a form of discrimination. The process of selecting a mate is loaded with discrimination. In fact, every time we make a decision for one thing over another, it's discrimination.

Is it unjust? No I don't think so. It's the internet, you can choose who you interact with. It's not like you're running a business, and even then people are expected to dress appropriately.

  • Sure it's "discrimination." But there's bad discrimination and there's WISE discrimination.
Someone who uses the profile picture you showed in this question is looking for attention and compliments FROM STRANGERS!!! This is all kinds of wrong.
They clearly have self-esteem problems and are seeking to solve them online. Also, all kinds of wrong.
Discriminating people think through their choices. Also, these pictures will be floating around forever online and could interfere with you getting a JOB someday.
    They're extremely foolish and childish.

  • You have the right to keep your company as you choose. If you find a profile distasteful you don't have to exchange with that person.

  • It's simply your preference

  • So the idea is to ban / block boobs but not racists...

    god that’s fucked up.

    • I block racists too. They are all class B users.

  • yes, but good discrimination. that be a good filter because it is abusive. that's right... woman are abusing mens eyes. It's not fair and they know it.

    I agree with you.

  • I think it's fine.

  • I don't see how it lowers the quality of your questions. A person's body and how they expose it has nothing to do with you.

    • I just don't like it and although I don't want to tell people what to do, their pfp affect me the moment they come in my questions. They have a right to expose their body, I have a right to block them for it. Same for people with wholesome pfps who talk too much about sex or invite me to sexual questions.

    • I don't personally understand why it bothers you so much, I would get it if it was full on nudity but someone with a sexy photo I don't personally see being that big of an issue. But I also have the ability to overlook anything I don't particularly care for rather than focus on it the second it appears. Also, I never said you didn't have the right to block people. I couldn't give two shits who you block and why. So, I don't understand why you're arguing that. But yeah, if sexy pictures bother you, you can block people, I just think it's silly.

    • The reasons are simple - such users attract creeps and perverts, can be creeps and perverts themselves, and those pictures more often than not give me bad vibes and memories.

  • Well, I rarely or never check profile pics, and they're also very tiny so 99% of the times I only read the nickname and their post. If that helps with your decision making.

  • Probably, but you should still go ahead and do it if you want to.

    • One cool way to troll people is to act like a total clueless ditz till the person’s so frustrated they literally go all red in the face. Fun 😊.

    • @Twelveo1 nah. Just trolling lol. I do it to people who try and convince me of stupid shit like Racism doesn’t exist.

    • @Gwenhwyfar Oh I have totally done that before too! And it’s also fun to pretend you’re really insecure about your breast size. 😊😌

  • Everyone discriminates on everything, so feel free to do what you want.

  • Maybe but some of them have cool opinions

    • Sadly their pictures and other opinions ruin everything.

    • Very true dude. I can't agree with people like them

  • If it bothers you and that's not the type of content you want to see block them.

  • i never pay attention to those ''type'' of women..

  • It's okay it's up to you it kinda bothers me too although i dont relaly say anything

  • Block whoever you want.

  • I don’t girls like that

    • I mean I don’t block girls like that

  • It's a personal judgement based on appearance. Even if it fits the technical definition of the word, do you really care?

    • No, in fact I've already blocked two users with revealing pictures.

    • Then I presume you're content with whatever assumptions you make about them and it doesn't really matter to you. Rock on.

  • i don't think so

  • Why? Sex sells and they want attention. I'm not their "customer" therefore it doesn't bother me. Live and let other live the way they desire to.

    • *others

    • So it's my right to exclude them from my areas so I can live the way I desire. Excellent.

    • If you want that, then do it.

  • That's a personal preference. If content like this bothers you, then do what you think its right. Its not discrimination.

  • Your account, you could tell them it’s not appropriate, or makes you uncomfortable.

  • No, its fine.
