In a lot of countries it was never illegal.

they tried making it illegal in England a couple century’s back, but it got thrown out.

the thought of either the death sentence, life in prison or chemical castration sort of made male sexuality a rather forced affair.

whereas women were pretty free to do what the fuck they wanted (sort of, oh like is natural).

That is the most likely reason, women have had no real problem with it, but men have ‘buggered’ (pun intended) things up for themselves and really screwed themselves sexually.

Some of it is due to more men keeping their sexuality a secret. There is still a social stigma towards gay men. Even in my country, which is probably one of the most sexually open-minded cultures, it is not very acceptable for two men to be affectionate with each other in public places. Us girls, on the other hand, are free to be open with our sexuality. There isn't any outright condemnation of gay or bi men here, but they know to keep that behind closed doors.

I think it's more accurate to say more likely to come out as bisexual. Women are becoming more encouraged to embrace their sexuality, plenty of men finding girls with girls to be hot. Men however, despite becoming bit more acceptable to be a player, are still pressured by society to not do anything that is considered "gay", that "men should be men". At least more pressured to restrain themselves than women are.

It's more accepted as a woman than it is men. Because there are a lot of guys that think 1. Bisexuality isn't actually real, it's just girls that like to have some fun, but they're actually straight/gay. and 2. Guys who do anything with a dick is irrevocably gay even if that's the only dick, other than their own, that they've had any interaction with.
