Should I try Dungeons and Dragons?

I have some chill friends who want me to try playing. Is there something I should know going into it so that I can try to enjoy it as much as possible?

I have no experience with acting/role-playing but I do love fantasy as a genre.

  • It's just a matter of using your imagination.

Just try to think about what kind of person, hero, villain, etc you'd be if you were put in that universe/world.

Like if your a singer then you might be bard or if your a nurturing and caring kind of person who's not a fighter then a support class like a healer might be for you. Or maybe your a sneaky and cautious thieve.

You know just choose a type of class that fits your personality and who you are. Or who you'd like to be.

And stay in character when your playing don't be afraid to create your own personality for that character and have fun with it pretend your in that world when playing.

For example in real life I'm a martial artist so in DnD my character might be a brawler to reflect that.

That's the best advice I could give you, just have fun with it and immerse yourself in that world and just choose the class and faction that best reflects you or who you want to be in that world. And craft a personality that goes along with that character.

  • Definitely. I've been playing for years and it's a great way to socialise with friends and meet new people. Don't worry too much about role-playing at first, no one is expecting you to come in great at that. There's some rules to learn, but it's fairly straightforward. I say go for it.

  • It's a no brainer, duh!
Start off easy with your friends fully being aware that you're new to this. Ask them for advice on where to start with character building and ask them to be patient. You'll learn more and more with experience both by observing the way others are playing around you and by doing research yourself as well on the side. Don't be afraid to ask your friends if you're unsure of how certain things work as well.
This is a long term investment in a way tho if you're planning on doing a longer campaign, but if you just want to dip your toes you can try out one shots and short campaigns just to test things out. Personally I was super confused the first time I played with my friend group but I'm really into it now half an year later!

    • Wow great answere that's the best

  • If you have the right group its really fun, be aware that it takes a long time. Its definetly worth trying if you got your friend by your side for advice.

  • Yes you should it’s a game of imagination and unlike anything you’ve probably ever experienced

  • It's a lot of fun- haven't played since I was a teenager, but I heartily recommend it

  • Check out the D&D Beyond website/app. There’s a lot of info and some cool RP forums there.

  • Sure, what have you got to lose? It's nice that you have friends that want to include you in their fun.

  • how creative are you at writting and imagining?

  • Something you should know?

Feel free to ask questions, attempt to stay in character if that's the type of group you're playing with and just chill and enjoy.

  • Absoooooolutely.

  • It is a great game and you can play it for a long time. I started playing D&D when I was 14 years old in 1982 and I still play to this day, albeit I am now a Dungeon Master. So have fun with it. 🌹

  • It's a lot of fun, you should definitely play!

  • I not really big into d and d but I know some people take it really serious. I say just try to have fun and make sure you know the rules perfectly..

  • Why do you ask here?
The idiots advice on this site is useless. They’re all morons and their opinions have Zero value!
Do what you want to do. Don’t ask idiots...
    You know what you want...

  • Yes beware of the d&d initiation to be indoctrinated in the group and you will not know what it means for you until it happens. I have heard of animal sex but most common is the whole group that has to do it with you orgy style and the group is a min of 25. But it is also important that you are interested in the role of the slut and you like gang bangs that are so violent that you can get a little weak and you don't know how to walk. If you are into it you will be fine. I know more. Dm. Lol

  • Have fun

  • Yes
    Dom and sub

  • Try it you might like it

  • Yes why not If you are into fantasy it can be fun

  • YES very much so. and if you open a session or join a session on line then please let me know. I want to enter a game for some time now

  • Yea, enjoy being the only hot girl in a room full of horny dudes popping boners everytime say something in the game haha jk... You should try it though, it's kinda fun 👍

  • It's usually awkward at first when you're getting into it, mainly because of the roleplay aspect. But you get over that feeling and then it usually becomes really fun. But a lot of the fun depends on how good the dungeon master is. That also goes for the other players but not as much. Overall, yes, I'd say give it a shot
