See I thought that also but my boyfriend told me he didn’t have one so I’ve been googling 😂 asked my grandpa that’s a doctor and apparently a lot of people don’t have one
Well, who am I to argue with your Grandfather? But, I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t have an internal monologue, I’m sure it’s possible that a mental illness could cause someone to not have an internal monologue, but you can’t just pull statistics out of thin air. There is a huge difference between your grandpa telling you some people may not have one, and you asserting that 75% of all humans don’t have one! You might want to cite a source for your clam that 3/4 of all humanity does not have an internal monologue. I did find a professor of psychology at the University of Nevada Russell T Hurlburt who asserted that up to 75% of people do not have an internal monologue, (perhaps this is where you got the 75% number) but his methodology has been widely criticized because he based his findings on peoples ability to recall what the were thinking BEFORE a random “beep” would sound. As he failed to take into consideration the subject’s concentration at the time, or their memory state at the time, or why the memory before the beep be considered so important that the brain recorded it to long term memory, his theories were not exactly dismissed, but it was recommended that functional MRI and EEG (electroencephalogram ) be part of any revised study. Thus there would be more than mere subjective opinions, and more concrete objective evidence to back-up his claims. The only other datasets I could find on this were based on on-line polls (which are never scientific).

Yes, that’s your internal monologue. I like to describe it as if your girlfriend looked at you and said “we need to talk!” If you think “Oh my God, she knows! Fuck! How the hell did she find out?” Then you very clearly have an internal monologue, just like the rest of the mentally healthy humans on this rock! It is most definitely not like Morgan Freeman is narrating your every action “… and as he sat there straining with all the might he could muster at that moment, it occurred to him that he was once again constipated, and was indeed at the mercy of the cheese he loved so very very much!” But it would be friggin’ awesome if it was like that!
Haha, yeah definitely agreed
That number seems very low to me.
Yep! That’s your internal monologue.
@CrazyGirl2 yeah internal monologue. not narration.
Bad robot 😭😭
And it is not my own voice
Mines not either😂
Is it male or female?
Your “internal monologue” would be that “voice in your head.” Like if I asked you to THINK of the words to “happy birthday to you” as if you were singing it, but just sing it in your own mind! Do you actually “hear” the words as if they were sung out loud, or are you simply aware of them but no matter how hard you try, you are not able to think of words in the same concrete way when you hear them out loud. God, I really hope I’m explaining it, the best way for you to fully understand. (According to Wikipedia an internal monologue also called internal speech, self talk, or internal discourse is a persons inner voice which provides a running dialogue of thoughts while they are conscious. It is usually tied to a persons sense of “self”).
Good one 👍🏻. 😘💋
Would you mind telling me what you say to yourself?
