Have you ever made a sex video?

Did you plan in advance what you were going to do? Just spur of the moment? Camera angles? How do you decide? I’m feeling like there are a lot of logistics here.

  • Nope. I doubt many people would be interested in viewing it if I did. I have however made videos. You are correct about the work involved. You only really need one camera and a good operator. Good sound and good lighting is essential. Most such videos could be made in a bedroom. A quiet location where there are not background noises is best. Carpeted floors will help as would sound dampening like sheets of foam on the walls. For lighting you can get aluminum reflector shades at Walmart or such places and then use LED lamps to produce a high level of lumens without adding a lot of heat. Since the bulbs don't get hot you can paint the top half of the bulb with silver reflective paint and get globe lights for this as they diffuse the light better. For reflector screens you can spray paint poster board with white reflector paint and then hang them on the walls to add light. Make sure you have light aimed in at the subject from multiple angles so as not to have dark spots a common mistake in adult videos. You only need one really good microphone suspended from a boom above the action to pick up sounds. NEVER dub in "porn music" nobody really likes it. Also don't dub in fake moans and "oohs" and "ahs" as everyone can tell they are fake. Just go with natural sex sounds. The sound of sticky gooey body parts rubbing in and out of each other is way better than anything you can fake.

    For the low end of what you can use to come up with a quality video I recommend a Canon m50 DSLR and the best macro lens you can afford. The camera should set you back around $800-$900. The lens, depending on which one you use can cost between $300 and $2000+. If you can, don't go cheap. A quality lens is almost more important and in some cases far more important than a good camera. For sound go with a Blue Yeti. They will give you near pro quality and are only about $140 new. Suspend it from a boom for around $100. Light stands are optional but you can get decent ones for about $30 each. You can attach lights to the stands using zip ties. If you want to be able to control the light intensity use Dimmable LED globe lights and a dimmer switch designed for LED lights. I got my lights for about $3 each and the switch was around $20. You will want a head phone to plug into the blue yeti so you can monitor sound. It is possible to make a decent video with one person acting as director and videographer and then just your performers. But a good video with more professional production standard would result from at least two and preferably three camera angles. I would recommend one operator using a handheld for odd angles and close ups. They should have a very steady hand. Then two others with cameras on tripods, and wheeled ones if you can afford them. Multiple light sources to saturate the set with good lighting. The importance of strong lights cannot be over emphasized. If you have strong lights you don't need your aperture open as wide and that means focusing will be easier. So a full crew would be three camera operators, one person running lights, one or two people with microphones on sound booms monitoring sound and a director. Usually the director doubles as wardrobe person. Typically your cast will do their own make-up. Often the director will run one of the cameras. Besides the above many production companies employ "fluffers" to assist in getting the cast "ready" for sex scenes. Often your cast is chosen for their looks not their skills. A fluffer is someone who may not be much in the looks department but is very good at the physical side of things and can get a soft penis hard much quicker than cast members often can. Keeping the guy hard is critical in straight and gay porn as your audience does not want to see a soft penis. For all Lesbian scenes they usually are not needed. Usually a major production company will use a set outside of a domestic setting for practical reasons.

    • Well in that case then a lot of what I said you can skip. Set one camera on a static tripod and point it in the general direction of where you will be and don't leave it zoomed in. Then a second hand held camera the two of you can use for close-ups. Don't forget to always look through the view finder. Nothing worse than playing back a video to find the camera was pointed some place else and you didn't record that really hot scene you just finished and good luck!

  • Not really a lot of logistics and here is why. I bought a Panasonic cam/corder , and an inexpensive tripod. We usually had sex, in either missionary or rear entry position, since that seemed easier at the time, to set the tripod up where you wanted it. Rear entry is best, since you can set the tripod/camera closer for close up shots, since she is on hands and knees, and me standing by the side of the bed. You can only get so close, like that because the tripod legs hit the bed, and the camera does not telescope out. Like most home porn you see, you, of course, have to start the camera manually, or use the Remote to start filming. Get a tripod with, (most of them are) adjustable legs to raise/lower the camera. Hope this next is not too graphic, but here goes.
