Why are sex jokes so popular?

Maybe it's obvious that they are popular because they are funny. So then the question is, why are they funny?

Is it because sex is a taboo subject and people automatically laugh when they are uncomfortable?
Is it because sexual parts and sex acts can be kind of silly, anyway, if looked at in a certain way?
Is it because it lends itself to some politically incorrect, highly sexist shit that can be super funny if it's satire? Like, I'm thinking of Andrew Dice Clay who would say the most horrible stuff about women, but if was funnier than hell because if was satire. I mean, you would practically spit out your drink and go "He did NOT just say that!"

Something on Facebook the other day made me think of this question. It had to do with people who are into political correctness and identity politics who get offended by everything. Jokes on almost every topic offend them. It got me thinking about jokes that would offend them and a lot of sex jokes came up. The more I thought about it, I realized that 1. Sex is such a popular topic for comedy. It's ubiquitous. 2. There are various reasons why sex jokes strike people as so funny.

3. It's wide open to all styles of comedy. 4. It has very widespread appeal. 5. It's one of the few topics that can shock people, cause them to choke on their drink and think "He did NOT just say that!" I'm interested in the psychological reasons.

    I think it's because sex used to be such a taboo topic, or something frowned upon outside of procreation.
    Sex jokes make sex more normal and something else us humans can botch once in awhile🤣

There's innocent stuff like when Young Frankenstein arrived at the castle and was taken aback by the giant iron knockers on the castle doors. He gasped, "Those are some knockers!" Teri Garr, who was preoccupied with something else, heard him and said "Why thank you," thinking that he had been talking to her. On the other hand, Andrew Dice Clay was deliberately misogynistic and politically incorrect. In one joke, he talked about going to pick a teen girl up for a date. The protective father told him to have her home by 10. So in his mind, he says, "Yeah sure, no problem. Bounce her up and down on my dick, a few blow jobs, but I'll have your little princess back by 10."

  • I don't know about sex jokes but i like sex topics. I grew up wih a lot of guy friends and always had a dirty sense of humor. I’ve had this freaky humor since 6th grade

    • Fall off the bed, spill an entire glass of water, pop out at a bad time, get a cramp, fart. One time we were in a position with my feet by my ears, more air gets in that way so after he came his deposit came flying out of me at a high rate of speed as I sat up. That was funny. We both laughed.
