at a minimum, you should have a full sex health check every 12 months and every time you change partners.
this includes oral sex and not just intercourse with or without condoms.
basically you do this until you eventually settle down and can trust the person you are with.
It's probably a good idea anyways. A condom will dramatically reduce the likelihood of getting any diseases but it won't 100% guarantee it.

A condom reduces the odds of contracting an STD but does not eliminate it completely, especially for herpes and HPV. Some STDs are transmitted by oral sex. It would be good to get tested.
