We do. Not only is this supported by science, but it makes sense from an evolutionary perspective.

From the perspective of species evolution, males and females serve two different roles and this is beyond that women give birth and men sire children.

To understand what I am about to say, we need to look at some facts of life:

1. The male gamete is the spermatazoan - the sperm cell. Males make billions of them each week. Sperm are cheap. A male can shoot his load squirting out zillions of sperm and it's no big deal; his testicles are very busy making more. So what if a hundred million are wasted jerking off or having a random hook-up because he will always have more. There's no shortage of sperm in the world.

2. The female gamete is the ovum - the egg cell. Women have maybe several hundred of these her whole life. She loses at least one each month and there's no replacing it. Eggs are priceless.

OK, now to the roles...

1. The role of men is to maximize genetic diversity.

Genetic diversity is important in a species because it helps protect the species from extinction. A species is healthier and more robust to problems if its members are genetically diverse.

Because men have sperm and sperm are cheap and men don't build babies, the logical thing to do is give men the order: "Fuck early. Fuck often. Fuck as many as possible whenever you can." In this way, a man's seed going into many women spreads his genetic wealth. And, so what if one of his kids dies. No biggie.
He can literally have thousands of children in his lifetime so the loss of one is not that critical to him.

2. The role of women is to be the architects of our species. Women are more selective than men because their eggs are few. They can't afford to waste them and they want the best genes to go into their babies so their babies can survive. So, women (when not drunk) select men that turns them on - that they feel may produce good children and that the man may be a good provider. A young woman may get horny, but her reproductive system is all business. It will even shut down the menstrual cycle if the body thinks its under duress; for instance, if a woman is very very thin and has insufficient body fat, the body interprets that it is not getting enough food. Not enough to gestate a healthy baby and keep the mother alive, so it shuts down to save those valuable eggs. Anyway, by choosing men to mate with, women are choosing what genes get passed along to the next generation and which ones end up in the genetic trash heap of history.

OK, so back to your original question...

Because men are responsible for genetic diversity and that is important to species robustness, men are horny - it motivates them to spread the seed as best they can.

By contrast, women may get horny and want to engage in sex, but they don't have the same drive to fuck every male under the sun because they do not have that evolutionary directive to spread genes like males do. Indeed, if she did attempt to do that, that is detrimental to the species because she may not be able to bond with a male to help her raise her children... (and males are instinctively more inclined to raise their own kids than some other male's).

Thus, it only makes sense that, generally, males should be more inclined to have a higher sex drive.
And it's reflected in the biochemistry... Testosterone is a key hormone affecting sex drive. It exists in both men and women and, the more you have of it, the hornier you become. Well, men have a lot more of it which is how they are hornier. The horniest a male is going to be is when he is a teen - when his testosterone is peaking and helping re-engineer his body from boy to man.

It is completely flawed logic to think that men naturally want to hop to every bitch to impregnate her. Its important for men to stick around and stay with the one he impregnates so he can provide for her and the baby. Also pregnancy is the time women are the most horny in their life. There is a obvious reason for this. If women were just in it for the baby they'd stop wanting sex once they got pregnant but the opposite effect happens. It really depends. Men have a sex drive that compels them to have sex and cum. Women have a sex drive that compels them to make a connection. While men fuck, cum and have a clear head for a bit, women have difficulty finding that connection thus leaving them unfulfilled.

The body is so low in estrogen that the sex drive slows down for them) We have very little testosterone and it doesn't do much for our sex drives just more for men. About evenly I'd say. Women just typically express it in different ways than guys do. Also, certain cultural stigmas, barriers, double-standards and even shame can (sadly) prevent some women from fully expressing their sexuality, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and that a woman's sex drive and needs aren't as high as a guy's. These are generalities, of course, as the sexual spectrum is incredibly wide and complex, so there are many levels of sex drive, as well as extremes at both ends of that spectrum.
