Have you ever heard of a guy who’s had a vasectomy getting a girl pregnant?

Just curious. Occasionally I have a little worry in the back of my mind if my period is late.

  • You can get an at-home test on Amazon for Mr. Loves2Learn to make sure there are no little swimmers left

    • Lmao. I like how you worded that. He did get a test in the office a few weeks after the surgery.

    • Yeah, I got mine a year ago too and even though I’m clear now, I still get paranoid about that too. We’re going to do the at home tests once a year because we already have 4 children and we do not want 5. 😂

    • Lmao! @mangospacho that is smart. We have 2 and they are a handful. We should buy that too.

  • Not personally, but I know it can reconnect. I have to check my sperm count every 5 years.

    • That is smart. We are due! 5 years in. How do you check it?

    • You can go to the doc and give a sample or if you own a microscope, jerk off on a slide and look. There should be no or very few wigglers in the sample.

    • 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Shall I ask our 9 year old if I can borrow his microscope? I’m sorry. I can’t 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • Yup. Happens more often than you think. My coworker got a vasectomy because he didn’t want to pay anymore child support. And yet he still got another girl pregnant. Sometimes the tube repairs itself.
In the immortal words of Doctor Ian Malcolm “life finds a way.”

    • 😬😬😬

  • Impossible? No. Likely? No.

There aren't any standard odds of getting pregnancy after vasectomy. A 2004 survey suggests that there's about 1 pregnancy per every 1,000 vasectomies. That makes vasectomies about 99.9 percent effective for preventing pregnancy.

    • Really quite effective.

    • Indeed! Your period could be late for a whole variety of reasons. If it is a pregnancy though, totally getting you a baby shower gift.

    • Awwww! Thanks! It always comes within a week. Just sometimes I worry a bit. 😊

  • It’s one of the most reliable medical procedures. It very rarely goes wrong, if he went for the follow-up appointment to have his sperm checked and that came back all good there’s no reason to be scared.

What does however happen a lot is men that _say_ they had a vasectomy to be able to go bare, up to you to classify your hubby correctly.

    • Well, he’s more against having more children than me. And yes, he did go in for his follow up.

    • @loves2learn Then you should stop worry too much IMHO… Pity, as vasectomies are really considered very safe and to allow you to have worryfree sex.

  • Actually yes! There is a period after the man gets a vasectomy, where sperm can apparently still get through, but I believe that is only about (or less than) 8 weeks! There have also been other “stories” where I have heard that “the vasectomy didn’t take” but truthfully I don’t know how true those “stories” really are! If I were you I would google it, and it never hurts to take a pregnancy test!

  • Yes. It happens. But it’s incredibly rare. Vasectomies are typically more effective than birth control.

  • Possible. Usually a vasectomy has more than one level of protection to ensure safety. They cut the tubes. Then they cauterize and/or clamp the ends. Then they separate the ends at different layers. All that, and then they test your ejaculate after healing to ensure there are no sperm present. Usually, that would finalize the situation. But over time, it is possible that something could come undone and get closer together. And there could be a tiny, tiny possibility of something changing enough to allow a pregnancy. But that possibility is such a small percentage I cannot imagine how small it is.

  • Yes if it didn't work they can get a girl pregnant. That's why they need to get checked after the surgery.

  • Yeah, I also heard of a white guy that had a vasectomy, got a white woman pregnant, and it came out black.

    • 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  • It's happen many times from what I understand

  • It happens, but you would have a better chance winning the lottery.

  • Yes my in laws had a baby at 40 cause of a failed vasectomy. It's very strange since my husband and his older brother were having kids around that time as well so the ages are 12,10 for my nephews, 8 for my youngest bro in law then 6, 4 for my own kids. When they're all playing together they look like brothers lol

    • That is wild! 😆

    • Yeah it seems normal to me now but in the beginning it was sort of weird when we'd take my husband little brother out and people would assume he was our baby

    • I can see why they would think that!

  • Never heard of a vasectomy getting a girl pregnant, but I've definitely heard of sperm that traveled through the vas deferens getting a girl pregnant.

    • That sounds like the normal process of impregnation lol

    • @loves2learn hehe :)

  • No I have not but I do know a guy that got it reversed and still had a son.

    • I know a guy who had it reversed and had 2 sons!

    • Nice! I bet it happens a lot honestly.. I never heard of one failing but if it happens itll happen you guys can have another bundle of joy :)

    • I saw an episode of “I didn’t know I was pregnant.” Her husband delivered the baby they didn't know they were expecting and looked at her and she was like DON’T YOU DARE. Turns out his vasectomy had healed itself on one side and he had to have it redone.

  • That shouldn't be happening. No "pipeline" taking sperm to penis, no sperm comes to penis.
    No sperm = no pregnancy. It's a boolean really if sperm = 1; pregnancy = [0, 1] while if sperm = 0; pregnancy = 0.

  • Entirely possible, not all vasectomies are 100% successful.

  • It’s possible. Sometimes the pipes come undone. Highly unlikely considering your age if your careful about timing but… older women are far more fertile just less eggs.

    • I’m not elderly dude. 🤣

    • Your 38. As women age they have less eggs but they more fertile. This starts happening in the 30s. That’s why you hear about twins more often with older couples. Which fun fact Asians have the highest chance of having twins among all races with mid 30s Asians having I believe 15 years ago it was like a 4% chance. Besides after you hit menopause, which your coming up on, this is a moot point lol.

    • Mkay. My mom didn’t hit menopause till her 60s. But you are right about the twinning in your 30s. Like the body’s last hurrah. I conceived twins on the cycle following my miscarriage. But one didn’t make it. I love the son I got though. 🌈

  • Yes, but he had only recently gotten a vasectomy and then had a minor injury to his testicle after it. When his wife got pregnant, he was very angry and had doubts of infidelity. To his fault, he never had a follow up after his vasectomy. The child was confirmed to be his.

    • Asshole!!!

  • I've heard of it, but I think it's pretty rare.

  • Yes, I have heard of it happening at least twice. It's because sometimes the doctor cuts the wrong cord, or that is regrows. However, is seldom happens, as most of the time the procedure is done right, and there is suppose to be a follow up where his ejaculate is tested for sperm. Though it's possible that you are pregnant, the chances are slim.

  • Yes. Quite a few times.

Also, getting tubes tied or getting "the snip," takes around 24-48 hours to be effective.
