If Abortion Become Illegal, What Will be the Future for Sex?

In Texas it seems abortion is being made illegal. This could spread to other states and maybe make abortions illegal all across the USA. I suppose women can go to Canada to terminate pregnancies if the US government tells us they are now in control of our bodies and not us. But for many, that is a LONG trip. So what is the future for sex?

A new Texas law that bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy includes a $10,000 incentive that could fuel an anti-abortion economy in the state. According to the law, private citizens can sue anyone seen to be "aiding and abetting" an abortion — whether or not they have any personal connection to them. Anyone found to have advised, helped pay for, or given a ride to an abortion clinic is fair game, including teachers, parents, clergy, Uber drivers, and friends.

If the plaintiff wins the case, they could be awarded a minimum of $10,000, plus attorneys' fees. The defendant, on the other hand, would not qualify for legal fee relief, no matter the outcome of the case. In this way, the law incentivizes widespread prosecution, with no disincentive for baseless claims. In a statement Wednesday, President Joe Biden said the law "blatantly violates" Roe v. Wade, which gave national protection to abortions in 1973.

  • It will never become illegal.
I don't think most understand what Roe vs Wade is and what it did.

It took the power for each of the 50 states to decide what regulations and laws would apply to that and it mandated federally that abortion was legal.

If Roe vs. Wade ever was overturned... it just goes back to each state to make its own laws. Even this Texas law which as been in the news a lot doesn't outlaw abortion it puts stricter guidelines on how early or late you can get an abortion.

Abortion is very complicated. There aren't 2 positions... there are many, many degrees of position.

You do have the 2 most extreme views...100% ban and 100% no restrictions of any kind... kill the baby as it is being delivered in the 9th month.
But there are tons of variants in between. Up to 3 months then stop. Up to 4 months then stop and all other time frames that you can't go past because people differ on when it becomes a full, living baby who has its OWN rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

It would go back to the states. I'm sure each state would have a different version of regulations.

  • Abortions becoming illegal means that people will be forced into illegal, unsafe abortions. It will also increase the maternal fatality rate as, surprise surprise, abortion is often needed to save the life of the mother.

Abortion is healthcare and need to remain legal, and easily accessible. If you want to decrease the rates of abortion, how about targeting the things that make abortion necessary? Like poor sex education, lack of easy access to birth control other than condoms, unaffordable healthcare, unaffordable day care, the lack of financial aid for struggling parents, the lack of paid maternity leave, better adoption/foster systems, etc etc

And guess what? Even if every single person who became pregnant was in the perfect financial place to have a baby and wanted that baby, abortion would still need to be an accessible option because sometimes things go wrong. Ectopic pregnancy happens, fetal death happens, deformities that would kill a fetus outside the womb happen, illness happens, complications that threaten the life of the mother happen. There will ALWAY be a need for access to abortion

  • We're just going to see teen pregnancies go back up. Maternal deaths go up. Suicide. Neglect. Child endangerment. Homicide.

    These people aren't pro life.

    • Why would it increase teenage pregnancies? If anything, it would make girls more cautious/picky if they knew that abortion wasn't a possibility.

    • Mm no... Banning abortion doesn't stop abortions it just stops *safe* ones.

    • It's a known fact that abortion rates actually go down when abortion is legal.

  • What the actual heck is wrong with people. Make abortions illegal and cases of "self-abortions" with coat hangers and what have you will go through the room.

However there is no black and white stand on this there are all the shades in between.

For example i believe that until the fetuses first heart beat the woman has every right to do what she wants with her body.

Beyond that if she was forcibly impregnated, and it can be proven then up to the second trimester. If its a third trimester then the woman has a few options except abortion. Government covered delivery and child support from the father, or give the child up to the foster system.

However ultimately abortions can't become illegal because it's removing a woman's right to choose what she wants to do, and i highly doubt the feminist community will take that laying down.

  • Sex will still happen. Perhaps the females will be a little more picky about who gets to insert his penis (which would probably be a good thing), but the absence of the availability of abortion will not stop sex from happening.

  • Women will resort to having self induced abortions. I don’t think it will change sexual encounters.
Now, take away birth control …that would make an impact.

    • Yeah, more deaths

  • There's always infanticide or abandonment. Not a nice thought but I suspect infant mortality rates would increase.

  • This is silly. Sex will still happen. There are plenty of other ways to prevent making a baby that don't involve killing them.

  • Even if it became illegal, it wouldn't stop it. Many things are illegal yet people do them every day. It seems like once something becomes a political issue some people act as if making it illegal or any change to current laws is going to fix the issue. Despite history showing this to be untrue time and time again. Must be that groupthink that politics inspires kicking in.

  • Increase in back street abortions,
    increase in abuse,
increase in number of kids in the care system,
    increase in poverty,
increase in mental health support requirements,
increase in adults with mental health issues from all that previous stuff etc.

Whatever state keeps it legal better have good roads, as. It will likely have a fair few new visitors.

  • it's never going to be made illegal, they're just trying to make a point

  • Texas is filled with too many conservative idiots.

  • Men will be forced to get the snip before this ever became a reality. Neither is gonna happen.

  • If abortions become illegal, people will break the law. Simple!

  • Nothing will change in regards to sex.

Probably more babies found dead in dumpsters, put up for adoption, abondoned in foster homes, more illegal and risky abortions leading to more death and serious deseases among mothers...

  • Anal intercourse will ramp up. So will mutual oral sex.

    • Yup.

  • More guys will join my club. Vasectomies for all!

  • The future for sex would be that less innocent babies will be killed as a result of it. It would also anger people like you who have never thought about why they think the life of the fetus is not worth preserving.

    • Well one unsafe abortion generally makes the woman infertile, so I guess it will in that way.

  • Its illegal after 6 weeks pregnant and when there is no medical reason to abort the pregnancy. I would have added rape and incest to the exceptions as well, but that's just how it is.

First of all, when a woman does not realize, she is 2-3 weeks over her period, that does not really speak for her.
Secondly, in the end it boils down to the question, under what condition it is okay to kill an unborn fetus/baby. Texas decided to side with the unborn one, who have no voice in this discussion at all.

    • “First of all, when a woman does not realize, she is 2-3 weeks over her period, that does not really speak for her.“ What do you mean by this? Do you assume every woman has a perfect 28 day cycle? Because many don’t.

    • First of all, your egg does not pop right on the day of the period, but usually around 5-7 days later. So from the moment, a woman even can get pregant, its less than 4 weeks til the next period, likely around 22 days. And yes, I am very very sure, no normal woman has a cycle of 6 to 7 weeks, thats nonsense. A woman might forget, that her period is already late, but still the argument stays: Should you be allowed to kill a fetus, because you are lazy? And lastly: Contraceptives are ridicularilly effective when done right. You are old enough to have sex? Fine, then you are old enough to act responsibly.

    • @mrmilti Dude, you really should have no say in this. You aren't a female. It's not your business what a woman does with a fetus that is inside her womb. If you had a fetus living inside your asshole, I wouldn't interfere with your decision.

  • Sex will find a way. It always does.

  • The future is for people to stop being so fucking reckless.

  • Basically be the same but with much more unsafe abortions. The whole rationale of making abortion illegal to decrease abortions is stupid anyway. Here in the Netherlands, even the very Christian parties support abortion being legal because it is verifiably proven to decrease abortions.

    • There are lots of ways to effectively decrease abortion rate than this shit

  • guess people would have to turn back to being more responsible... you know like in times before birth control was a thing.

    • So butt sex then.

    • was that common before birth control?

    • Probably.
