He doesn't really have a right to impose his wishes on you if it something that you really don't want to do. On the other hand if it is something you would consider at least it is something that you could try temporarily and if you can't live with it just shave it back off.

Give it a try, if you don't like it you can always shave it away. He will adjust to whatever you choose. I prefer it hairy, and my girlfriend usually keeps it like that, but during our relationship there have been a couple of periods that she shaved bare or a landing strip, sometimes for more than a year. Even though it wasn't my preference, I knew it was her choice and I respected it.

Shave it it's your body. I prefer it that way too. But if you compromise, a well maintained patch or strip is cute too.
