  • When it comes to producing a child, who is more important? Mother or Father? Of course you need a man’s sperm to produce a child, but you cannot have a child without an egg – a woman is age-old truth and today’s reality. But genetic science has different answer for future.

Cell of women has X, X chromosomes, one from her mother and one from her father. Egg – half cell of women will have either of this two - one X chromosome. This is why sex of child to be born is not decided by women, she will be contributing X chromosome only – whether it is originally from her mother or her father, but it will be X, and X only. Man has a pair of chromosomes – X and Y. Sperm of men – half cell has different story about chromosomes, It may have X chromosome from his mother, or Y chromosome from his father. If sperm with Y chromosome fertile the egg, it will produce a boy, and if sperm with X chromosome fertile the egg, the child will be girl. Usually there is equal chance of producing a boy or girl from sperms of men. This is quite simple to understand why father – men decide the sex of child. This is true till date.

Life Science and Genetic science has find out that size of Y chromosome is decreasing with time, and it has remained about one-third of original size. There are enough good chances that Y chromosome will become insignificant or vanish within some specific period – not today or within few yearas – after thousands of years. So there will be no effective / dominating Y chromosome or no Y chromosome at all to produce a boy – male child. This means – there will be no men to donate sperms with Y chromosome on earth. Human life may end here on earth, but there is another possibility too. An egg of a woman can be fertilized with another body – half cell in science having similar numbers of chromosomes and similar cell structures. This means an egg of a woman can be fertilized with another egg of the same woman or other woman to produce a child, and in this condition the child will be girl and girl only. Even today – there are some evidence that an egg can be fertilized with another egg in laboratory – techniques similar to test-tube baby. There will be no need of man to produce a girl child, but man alone cannot produce boy without dominating Y chromosome - or alpha man - pairing Y, Y chromosomes as they will no more be available. So women – females are must, they can produce girl child without man, but man cannot produce child without an egg – the female ultimately. This is what science is seeing for future, conditions may change any time, but very soon it will be possible to produce a girl child without man.

Most Helpful Girl

  • I think that both are equally important too raising a child.

Most Helpful Guys

  • Clearly is the woman. Women's single most important purpose for existence is to create new life and to nurture that life into adulthood. Obviously there needs to be a man to fertilize her egg, and a man is really needed to provide reason and structure and a different point of view for the children too, but the majority of the care for the child naturally comes from the mother. That's an incredibly important and valuable job.

  • C - both are equally important but in different ways.

Having said that, the statistics show that children of single fathers fair significantly better than children of single mothers. And the statistics on fatherless children are overwhelmingly telling.

  • Can't vote, studies show that both are just as important to a child's development.. Why do you think you see all of the worst things come out of single mother homes.. A man is needed to control the crazy.

  • Neither. Like you said, you can't have a child without a woman. But you need a man's sperm. Which is just another way of saying you can't have a child without a man. Both are equally important and equally useless without the other in terms of reproduction.

    • And technically, if you get sperm and an egg, you don't need either of them to make a baby. You can grow one in a tube in a lab.
