People who make fun of this sort of thing, I think they kind of miss the point that with a cartoon, it's much easier to find an actor, because the actor's personality and voice doesn't have to match their on screen looks, so there tends to be quite a bit more variety in personality types in an anime than in live action tv and film, so it makes sense that examples of real people archetypes would be easier to find in an animation, since tv and movies are live action, and your real life inner circle is going to have an even smaller pool of types of people.

As such, people who form attraction to a character are typically forming an attraction to the personslity type of the voice actor or their role, and as far as body types go, many shows intentionally draw women based on what men like in actual real women.

It can be quite a useful tool, to have the ability to say, I want a partner just like _____.
It's much easier than saying: "I want a partner with (insert 30 page essay worth of details). Why does that matter? Well people typically meet "the one" at school, work, or a local outing, or a dating site, and it helps if those who see you (or your profile) know what you are looking for, in the most brevity filtered way possible, because who knows, their friend's friend's friend might know the perfect match for you.
