NBA players are not average - they're taken WAY from the far right edge of the graph when it comes to height. And while height is not specifically a requirement (overall basketball skill/performance is the prime criteria), being extremely tall definitely adds to a man's natural basketball ability, and when there are millions of young men playing basketball in high school, and hundreds of thousands playing in college, and you filter that down to the few dozen openings in the NBA each year, it's easy to filter out shorter guys, because they're at a disadvantage in basketball compared to the taller guys. The few shorter guys who have made the NBA were absolutely exceptional players, but that's not the norm.

Porn works the same way. The average penis length in the US is 5.6" long, but no "average" sized guy is going to get hired in porn. In fact, porn specifically requires men with very large penises. Out of 100,000 guys who might want to be a straight male porn star, maybe 3-5 of them have a big enough dick to even be considered for porn - and then they still have to be able to perform. So, trying to use porn to represent the average penis is like using the NBA to represent the average male height. It's completely unrealistic.
