Would you take male hormonal birth control?

There's currently a clinical trial going on for a male hormonal birth control (taken orally once daily). Currently the side effects reported are similar to that of female birth control, though even the placebo group reported side effects (🙄). Acne, headaches, mild erectile dysfunction, reduced sex drive, tiredness, and weight gain have been some of the experienced side effects.

So far it seems really promising. They're currently studying long term effects and whether it actually suppresses sperm production and ultimately stops it.

Superb Opinion

  • I would if the girl I was dating had issue with BC and it messed her around.

my main thing about male birth control is guys would lie, ‘oh it’s okay I don’t need a condom, I’m of BC’, the reality is he took one pill 2 years ago and did not bother after that.

A lot of girls are early to mid teens when they go on BC and it covers more than just pregnancy, this means taking it is a large part of a girls life.

A yearly or 6 monthly injection would be better for guys, remembering to take a daily pill….

  • Gonna be honest here, if it didn't have side effects and actually stopped sperm production, yes, I'd pop that shit like it was candy (not really but I needed to convey enthusiasm)

But lets be realistic here. Female birth control has failed to work so often that it's pointless (hence even needing male birth control), and controlling 1 or a few eggs is a lot easier than controlling several hundred million sperm.

I don't think it will work, but if it does, and the side effects are health problems like stroke or heart attack, than it's not worth it.

If the side effects aren't hazardous, but include erectile dysfunction or low sex drive, then whats the point? who needs birth control when they either can't or don't want to fuck?

    • Female birth control stops ovulation all together. So it's not just 1 egg...

    • Also have you looked into the side effects of female birth control?

    • I meant at a time, not like 1 egg over all, in any given ejaculate there are like 75 million sperm... And yeah, some are as bad as outright killing the poor girl with blood clot side effects, shit is scary.

  • I think condom is safer, but hey, that's just me. For a weird reason, I feel like birth control pills are generally more riskier than condoms. Better to use both condom and birth control pills 🤷‍♀️

    • Both is good but they have about the same rate for effectiveness. Pill being 99% effective and condoms 98%

    • Well, yes, both are, but I'm just paranoid. And condoms prevent STDs

  • I sincerely apologise for perhaps sounding so sceptical, for just how many of us women could ever really trust a guy to take these religiously ever single day.

    • Thank you for the MHGirl.

What Girls & Guys Said

  • Nope and I don't see the reason to do so. I already got snipped.

  • Hell to the no. Remember, men have to quote-on-quote "perform" in the bedroom. A reduced sex drive does not turn girls on, neither does an erectile dysfunction. Either wear a condom, or the girl needs to take a pill, or do both at the same time for extra safety.

    • Women have to be turned on and happy to have sex. Both things that the female birth control affect. Not to mention the endless list of side effects.

    • Then just ask the dude to wear condoms. Done. no mental gymnastics needed. Other women would be more than happy to take the pill, but if that's not for you, then so be it.

    • I don't take it for birth control

  • my only problem would be that I actually hate to swallow pills...

    • I would hope you didn't take it. But as a tip for taking pills, either crush it up in your drink. Or stuff it between a piece of cake or candy and chew and swallow. I could always just swallow a pill whole without even eating or drinking anything after. But now my throat feels like its closing up so its hard to swallow these horse size pills the doc gives

    • @DizzyDesii well, I would only do it if absolutely necessary truth is I would rather just go under the knife because I like my hormones as they are

    • Same. I’d get tubes tied after i have one or two kids

  • Yes if the side effects weren't too much with me, although as I'm not really considering kids anymore at my age I am now considering the possibility of getting the snip.

  • Hmm well if placebos are failing that's not a good sign what happens if we actually give them it? lol

Probably would tho but then again i would rather just have a vasectomy.

    • Lol I don't think people saying they have side effects from a placebo means it's failing. Those people are probably just looking for side effects

    • Of course it don't mean anything to the actual drug it's self. But imagine giving people who already experience stuff without the drugs then add real drugs it's gonna be a mess, Next thing we know they will be flying on walls.

  • It would need to be around at least 20 years first to have a better idea of long term side effects before I would take something. Who knows, it could cause cancer or something like many medicines have done.

  • No thanks. I work to have peak fertility all the time. If I need to wear a condom so be it. I'm not trying to catch STDs either.

  • yes, then I would know that I am covered, and not have to rely on her if she is really telling the truth.

  • I wouldn't but if someone else wants to than good for them.

  • Just the reduced sex drive part will probably do the trick.

  • Yeah, I could see it happening, there is always the gal wanting to get off the pill things, or doesn't want an IUD. In a sense women have always had more options than men, and having more isn't a bad thing, plus more options for condomless sex in the moment.

  • I got snipped. Fixed. Done.

I think this birth control should be mandatory if you're on any form of government assistance.
Male and female. If you're receiving welfare or government housing and don't have a job... this should be mandatory.

    • what the fuck is wrong with you

    • @kqueen oh... I'm guessing you're assumings something... please tell me what your assumption is.

    • I assumed you were saying if you're poor you should be sterilized

  • No, I'd just get a vasectomy. I don't want kidlets anyway.

  • Possibly, but how many women would trust that a guy was using the male pill? I always used a condom anyway.

  • Yes as long as they're no side effects

  • Probably not, but only because I have a hormone disorder I already take medication for.
I’m all for men taking the initiative and getting male birth control.

  • I guess I try it out. Does a girl come with it lmao. But the only things I don't like is reduce sex drive and erectile dysfunction.

  • yeah i would. though i wish it came without the weight gain lol

  • Never.

  • Sure... but I'd rather just get a vasectomy so I wouldn't have to try to remember taking the pills
