  • After hearing multiple people, who identify as pan, share the same story about how their attraction works, I can only conclude that pansexual is different than bisexual.

I would never describe my attraction the way they do, even though I also like men and women, cis or trans, also enby and gender fluid.

Now, do you want to start breaking down polysexual, omnisexual, and sapiosexual?

How about we discuss the difference between romantic attraction and sexual attraction, and how those two factors misaligning can be really tough to live with.

There are actually a large number of men who are bisexual and heteroromantic. That is they are sexually attracted to men and woman but only interested in romantic activities with women.

Oh, how about aces. That is asexuals and or aromantics.

    • Why don’t you describe yourself as pansexual if you’re attracted to all genders?

    • Because most people, that I have heard, describe themselves as pansexual use the term "regardless of gender" and that is just a term I would never use. Gender is important to me, I just like them all. I also hear them say "it's about the person, not the gender." And that doesn't feel quite right for me either. Bisexuals often have what is referred to as a bi-cycle (because we love puns almost as much as pansexuals do. It means that our sexual preferences can change over time, and then change back. For some it is extreme enough that they will be uninterested in anything except for a specific gender for a time. I'm not that far gone but if I'm digging dudes more for a time and then back to ladies, or getting the hots for enbys, then "regardless of gender" doesn't really fit. Some look at bisexual as an umbrella term that covers a bunch of different sexualities. But after listening to pansexuals, I don't really feel that it is, though I know pans that find it easier to just say they are bi if they don't want to explain it to people. And I'm cool with that too. In the end, we are more similar than we are different, and we should be the bestest of allies. I don't feel like an umbrella, more like an older sibling. The term bisexual, in this context, has been around for a very long time. It's established, and people have a general understanding of what it means. So I feel strangely protective of the people that identify with newer terms.

    • The idea of "bi-cycling" is very interesting. I hadn't known that it can work like that.

  • Of course!

    A pansexual is into cookware.

A bi-sexual means you are into bikes.

  • Yes but it’s becoming way too complicated because there’s so many different sexualities now when it shouldn’t be this complicated. Lol

When I was younger it was male or female, gay, straight That’s it.. then they added lesbian, gay, trans, etc… now certain people can be considered a certain sex but you have to use certain pronouns out of respect or you’re being homophobic. It’s too much really.

    • Yes, it's definitely become very complex!

  • Pansexual is saying you’ll decide what you are when you are! Pansexual is either loving male or female! Yes you may love a person for who they are. But when it’s a man and your a man. You are gay. When it’s a woman and your a woman you are a lesbian. If you flit between both you are bisexual. That’s it

    • I’m straight

    • What are you?

    • That I ultimately prefer the opposite sex

  • I don't keep up with the 27 categories. To me, you like men, women, both or neither. It's rather simple.

    • Yes, all the terminology can get a bit excessive.

  • Yes there is a difference. Pansexual is wiling to date anyone regardless of how they gender identify and bisexual is only willing to date a guy or a girl

    • @CoolGuy500 it is not since there is more than 2 genders

  • The way I see it is that someone who is bisexual has attractions to specific genders, where as pansexuals have an attraction to all identifiable genders.

  • Well yeah but the difference don't make much sense to me, but i ain't BI or Pan so i don't really have to worry about it.

But why it don't make sense to me, because if i would be attracted to both anyway and Actually would think it would be better, like been BI getting a girlfriend with a dick? seems good to me if i like girls and like dicks.

    • I agree. I've heard that being pansexual includes being attracted to a trans person while bisexual doesn't... but I don't understand that because it seems like it would be the best of both worlds for someone who's bisexual.

    • That's what logic would dictate. But alas sexuality ain't really logical more emotional so it's whatever they feel there attracted to and i guess for some whatever reason it just don't work out in the way of liking trans or etc.

  • I would not know how to distinguish between the two

    • Easy, my friend! Let your resident lgbt friendo help you out. Bisexuality means being attracted to 2 genders, male or female. Pansexual means being attracted to anyone regardless of gender. So for example, I could be into men (regardless if they are transgender ftm), women (regardless if they are mtf), I could be into genderfluid individuals, I could be into non binary and there are many others, but I think you get the idea.

    • @Ez-Bri-Z Holy Moly, Easy breezy ! I had no idea what that meant. Thanks for the explanation. But with that said, I still would not be able to make that distinction, would I ?

    • How so?

  • These particulars have been out of the DSM since 1973.

    • I personally know someone who calls himself a pansexual to this day.

    • Well, I have read that very few lesbians will accept a transgender. This does not mean the phenomena phenomena is identical to bisexuals.

    • So, I would say yes based on my limited knowledge

  • Yes, most certain here is something I found https://www.healthline.com/health/bisexual-vs-pansexual

    • @flower7 This link is genuine and legit

  • I am pretty confused about the whole thing.

    • You're not the only one!

  • I thought they meant the same thing?

    • They use different words so I guess not?

  • Tbh idek what pansexual is

  • It stands to reason that a bisexual person may not be accepting of transgender, non-binary, etc people where as the pansexual would be. After all the root of bisexual is two, while pan means all.

  • Hell if I know

  • no not really. I mean they both date anyone so yea

  • There are WAY TOO MANY
    ... sexuals!!!

    • I agree lol.

  • Yeah i guess there is some differences

  • There is a difference?

    • Well they have different names so I guess so lol. I'm here trying to figure that out myself.

    • LOL exactly

  • I think bisexual is attracted only to males and females (2 genders). Pansexual is also for trans maybe (regardless of gender).

  • Not really
