Does anyone know the evolutionary answers to why both men and women (but in particular men) of the same size differ in physical strength?

Jesus-God! I didn't know such a misunderstanding of the question would create such a flame war.

  • Because women are weaker then men physically in a variety of ways.

Women have 40% less upper body strength and 33% less lower body strength on average then the average man.

Men on the other hand naturally have 33% ( around 26 pounds ) more skeletal muscle on our bodies then women do. On top of that all of our muscles are able to generate a higher maximum power output then women's can.

We also convert more of our caloric intake into muscle and expendable circulating energy reserves, while females tend to convert more into fat deposits.

And men also have higher muscle-mass to body-mass ratio. The greater muscle mass is reported to be due to a greater capacity for muscular hypertrophy as a result of higher levels of circulating testosterone in males something which women don't possess.

We also possess more muscle fibers in our bodies then women do and ours are twice as strong to boot.

Our muscles when trained also grow faster and stronger then women's do because of the way our bodies were designed where the nutrients we consume goes and the immense reserves of Testosterone.

Those are just a few of the reasons why men and women of the same size aren't the same strength.

Men's bodies were designed for different things then women's. And our design reflects that.

  • There are a number of genes that are associated with human strength. Many of them are related to the muscle fibers themselves, but you also have to consider the communication between the brain (central nervous system) and transmission through the peripheral nervous system to fire all of those fibers in coordination. Just as some people can have genetic variations via mutation that negatively impact muscle strength and lead to particular diseases, so to can certain people have differences that grant them a genetic/epigentic advantage. As to why that would happen on an evolutionary basis, well obviously strength is a preferable trait that would survive...

  • it’s sexual dimorphism, through evolutionary time men had to compete with other men for access to mates.. so men got stronger through time.. women don’t have to compete for mates because they can only get pregnant once at a time so women didn’t get stronger through time 💫💫

  • I like how everyone is comparing strength between men and women, not the question you asked, which is two people of the same gender.
At least that's how I interpreted your question's wording. Seems clear to me.

    • Good Golly Miss Molly!

    • 'It's not you, it's [them], girl.' 🤗

    • Re: your update. Yeah, just goes to show how much discord there is in society now. Even, or maybe especially, on GAG, gender relations are not doing well. Your writing was clear. People see what they want to see. Or what they assume they will see, so they forget to think. So much for having 99.8% in common with apes. And so many people say they like their pets more than humans. Uh, yeah! Your pets are dependent on you, can't speak English to disagree, and conform to everything about your life. Sheesh.

  • Bone density, testosterone, and partially due to men not giving birth. Men are the workhorses and women are the kid popper-outers. Do not question evolution. It is a mystery. Will it change if no one sees?

  • I mean not always but you are right I think it's because we boys are growing up there so much more physical and the girls don't use those muscles as much as the boys do so strength just gets stronger and stronger your girls kind of do physical things too but not as much as boys do maybe I'm not sure if this is answer or not but this is what I think

  • We have different muscle mass for the most part.

  • I think this is more of a logical answer. Some people work out more than others.

  • Testosterone?

  • I think it's because women naturally have more body fat than men

  • Muscle fibers in males are twice as strong. Testosterone is the hormone of the gods.

    • Right, right.. but I meant intra-gender.

    • Some people workout, some don't; mystery solved.

    • It’s the hormone of the gods but y’all die off quicker because of it…😂 get a life you MGTOW lame. 🤣🤣🤣

  • Do what? The same size? Probably because despite having the same size one has more testosterone thus has more dense muscle. I don't reckon it got nothing to do with evolution.

  • It's the T honey. Plain and simple. That's what makes men real men.

  • Testosterone and genetics

    • It’s because masculinity has more testosterone, equaling more physical strength. Exactly and genetics are going to be different between men and women. In our bodies, the way we think, and social habits.

  • It’s all in the skeleton bones and muscle mass. God made it this way on purpose

    • And I don't know if you are evolution or special creation... But I am coming in with the assumption that a species begins with some type of difference between members. And some factor would cause a cause this intra-gender difference to increase with pro-creation. This accounts for Ronda Rousy being able to slide me and, no offense Iron-Man, Bruce Lee sliding you.

    • Nobody’s sliding me. You know nothing about my background. I’m a Golden glove boxing 🥊 champion I played football with NFL football Hall of Famer‘s and dominated them. Plus I wrestled varsity in school

    • Well, I meant TOP NOTCH. I am sure you are stronger than most guys.

  • It's genetics and also vitamins, what you eat and how you exercise.

  • Muscles…. that easy

  • Evolutionarily, males are usually stronger, because it was necessary for survival and possibly reproduction.

  • Danger, evolutionarily men had to cope with more danger.

  • That's easy.. men have higher levels of cortisol and testosterone.. the chemical building blocks of muscle development and many other things

  • men used to hunt and women looked after the kids.

  • Same way you get weird breeds of animals. A long history full of mixing genes with physically different people and the dominant genes presenting themselves throughout history.
Or maybe magic I don't know.
