  • While I certainly understand many people's inability to empathize with minorities, disgust at sexualities other than their own, and general distaste for deviations from the mainstream "norm", representation of minorities and subcultures in entertainment matters.

I'm sure many people will ask why we can't just leave history alone, and why do people of color, LGBTQIA, etc have to be included in these remakes of classics? Partly because these classics were made back in the "good ol' days" when hanging people of color from a tree for any or no reason was seen as normal and good, or in the not-so-distant past when anyone other than whitewash heterosexuals were ridiculed at best, or tortured and left to die on a barbed wire fence at worst.

Partly because if we just left all these stories written predominately by white people with white heroes and heroines as they are, we would be discriminating against members of our society that we value, and robbing them of the powerful reinforcement that comes from having stories of hope, victory, ambition, etc, that you can personally relate to, because you relate to the characters.

Partly because it adds to our lives to see people who are NOT like us, who represent the broader diversity of what it means to be human, outside of our own experience and the experiences of those who are close to and like us, sharing our same views. I personally ENJOY learning about another culture, another sexual preference, another perspective. I feel it makes me more complete as a human to be able to empathize with my fellow humans.

I'm all for a bisexual Superman, a black Batman, or whatever other "abominations' (sarcasm) the entertainment industry can present to us.

    • Well put, I don't think I could have said this any better

    • Wow that was really well said. I agree

  • Back in the 1990's, DC comics tried to sneak in a gay character in the Green Lantern comic. The writer of the comic was obviously gay, and he managed to sneak a supporting character in that was gay. The character was the best friend of the "new" Green Lantern. The writer pushed the boundries in each issue, to see how much he could get away with. Back then, people were not bending over backwards to desperately pretend to be pro-gay and "woke". DC apparently would not let the writer make Green Lantern gay or bi, so the author instead began writing a story about the gay friend. In the story, this friend goes out to a gay club with another man. As both of them leave the club later that night, several stereotypical white racist guys beat them up so bad , they have to be hospitalized. Green Lantern finds out about this and he goes crazy! He hunts down the "homophobes" and beats them up really bad and the cops arrest them. Green Lantern is not satisfied and shows up in their jail cell and threatens them some more.
People did not like this crap and eventually the writer of the comic was replaced with someone more sane.

I do not have anything against gay people. If you are an adult, you should be free to choose your sexuality. You don't have a right to push your lifestyle on kids, though. The goal of that superman comic is to make being a gay male, cool. I don't know why so many gay men are obsessed with pushing their lifestyle on little boys. Years ago, there was a group of gay men who were fighting hard to be allowed to be Boy Scout masters. I was really against this. I was thinking, why are these gay men fighting so hard to be able to take preteen boys out in the woods on camping trips? I was called a homophobe for my comments. Looks like I was right. The Boy Scouts had to file for bankruptcy because an estimated 90,000 little boys were molested by scoutmasters and the parents of those poor boys sued the Boy Scout organization.
Think about that number... I would bet that every one of those gay men who were demanding to be allowed to be scoutmasters were just just wanting to molest little boys.

If this woke plague continues, every character and role model on t. v., in movies and in comics will be depicted as being gay.

    • Did you just link nworeport lol

    • >I don't know why so many gay men are obsessed with pushing their lifestyle on little boys. Ill never understand this argument. It is so common for even kids shows to have a love interest for the main character and that relationship is almost always a straight one. From Spiderman to fucking mickey mouse. How is that also not pushing narrative on little boys?

    • It's not pushing it onto kids tho. If you see a movie with a straight couple in it dies it mean they're pushing their lifestyle onto kids? No they're just existing.

What are your thoughts on the new Superman coming out as Bi-sexual?

I am not sure what's worse: all these "remake" movies and shows. Or people changing classic characters to appease everyone.

Have y'all heard the old saying, "If it's not broke, don't fix it?"
There's a reason that holds true: you don't need to change a character's race, sexuality, religion, etc..
    Leave stuff alone.

Let this new generation watch the original superman, or read the comics like the rest of us did... instead of Hollywood trying to be so "accepting."

We get it! Y'all are trying to show that you support everyone. You can do so without making superman bisexual.

So what do I think? It's stupid, yet predictable. Unfortunately, I predict all superheros and/or villains will be remade in some manner.

    • That's the point: they are doing this on purpose. They want to destroy ALL institutions that "white men" (and a lot of others) love, so they can rebuild it afterwards in their Marxist ideal. That's the point of wokeness, and of racist accusations (coming from the most racist people on the planet).

    • honestly i dont have an issue with them making NEW characters and figuring stuff out like that. But my thing is like the majority of people reading superman aren't into sexual stuff in that kind of content. Last thing I would want is my kids being exposed to this stuff way too young. Now I gotta keep all my old stuff set aside in case I ever do become a father and let them enjoy classics. This just goes to show that these new SJW weirdo writers dont have any original ideas and are trying to live out their own fantasies now that they have been granted the pen smh...

  • So dumb.

It's the latest in the go-woke-go-broke battles.

Basically, writers who want to proselytize can't write for shit. If they wrote new stuff, no one would care. So they demand to write their platform using established I. P.

And it sucks. And for a brief while, Twitter or Tumblr praises them for their wokeness. But then they pack up their SJW bag and move onto ruining the NEXT I. P. They don't actually stay around to buy the woke version of the product. They were never fans of it in the first place. They just saw a battlefield for their wokeness to win.

The company will realise its profits collapse because they tried to appeal to a minority market segment that had no interest in the product, and pissed off it's established fan base.

Best of all (personally) was when the writer of the Captain Marvel comic said "Don't like it? Don't buy it." And sales collapsed. And then she started blaming everyone. lol

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

  • This is the son of the original Superman, so sign o the times! Why not? Not breaking any cannon!

  • as far as I'm concerned Superman is a character based on Lucifer. as we know Lucifer is a man. Angels are men, just very powerful ones, not human, but men. From what I learned he is a straight man and would never sleep with another man. there's even a tv show called Lucifer with Tom Ellis and in the tv show Lucifer is bisexual too.

well, what we have to understand is that sometimes art imitates life and sometimes it does not. from what I know Lucifer is very different from the character in the tv show. he's a lot more like the one in Superman Man of Steel, who is more serious and very reserved. Mostly military. From what I have learned in fact he has many wives okay, all over the world, just like in the old times, when powerful kings had as many wives as they pleased.

but look, please take it with a grain of salt, this is only what I have come to know.

maybe I could be deeply wrong, maybe he is bisexual in real life too. everybody is free to do what they please.

I think these characters portraying him as bisexual are made to please the people. we are entering an era in which everything will be seen as aloud and praised. this is the Lucifer/Superman many people want, so they will tell you what you want to hear, they will make you see his as you want to see him.

The goal here is to be pleasing to your eyes, to society's expectations.

well, not all people want to see him as bisexual, we have always known Lucifer/Superman as a straight man. but look, maybe this is the path to being part of society the future, in which people have no boundaries.

maybe Lucifer will appear to the world one day and say he's bisexual. maybe he will be lying to please his followers, maybe he will be bisexual.

people do whatever they want and we must learn to live with them, and treat them kindly whether they are what we wish they were or not. we have to love people for who they are.

  • People don’t turn gay because of this. You’re born that way and can’t change it over time. If it helps people feel more included and accepted I’m for it, even if I don’t like seeing it. Then again, most likely sales statistics predicted that more gays would now newly buy / see this stuff than homophobic rejecting it, hence, sales increase.

  • Eh.
That's my reaction when I saw this, that's my opinion.
He's a comic book character. I mean, I read comics on occasion, I guess (comicstorian is best youtube channel).
I don't see why this is a cause of celebration or upset. It just is.

  • Yay! I like when bi characters exist. Because we don’t have enough. We barely have any, so we have to make some up. That’s why Li Shang from Mulan is considered a bisexual icon. We’re grasping at straws here.

And the original Superman isn’t going anywhere. So why do people get so bothered by it? Just like the Brandy Cinderella doesn’t negate the existence of the Lily James one, a bi Superman doesn’t make the previous ones disappear.

    • "so we have to make some up" Ok then maybe they should actually do THAT instead of hijacking existing characters and franchises.

    • 😂 Who said we’re hijacking anything. Like I said, the old Superman movies still exist. Besides, there is no such thing as completely original art anymore. Art always builds on more art. And if you want to go down that route, how about we discuss all the fictional characters who were originally written to be LGBT, who the producers insisted as being rewritten as straight. Did you know that the Matrix was originally intended to be an allegory for the trans experience of self discovery. That’s why Neo gets so mad about being dead named. Other straightwashed characters include Ayo in Black Panther, Achilles (as in the Iliad Achilles), Jughead in Riverdale, Mystique in the X-Men saga, Velma in Scooby Doo, Paul in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Lestât and Louis from Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, Clyde from Bonnie and Clyde, Wonder Woman, Marvel’s Valkyrie, Harley Quinn and Hercules himself. That’s been happening for centuries. Rewriting queer versions of familiar characters is a fairly recent phenomena. So who is really stealing from who? And how about REAL people who have been historically rewritten as being straight, because so many people can’t fathom the idea of looking up to a LGBTQ+ person. Malcolm X, for example, was bisexual. Angela Davis is a lesbian. Da Vinci himself was gay (and also vegetarian, while we’re on the subject). Eleanor Roosevelt had affairs with women, and Anne Frank wrote about being attracted to women. Abraham Lincoln likely wasn’t straight. Neither were Emily Dickinson and William Shakespeare. Again, who is stealing from who? There is a higher concentration of LGBT people in the arts than in virtually any other field. Do you honestly think we haven’t tried to make more queer characters? How about instead of getting mad about this, ask why producers don’t green light more original stories about queer people? That’s where they get rewritten as straight before we even get to see the original character.

    • Also, why does it bother you so much? Your extant heteronormative Superman already exists. You can watch it any time you please. We’re not doing anything to it. So how does a new film that represents someone other than yourself hurt you at all?

  • Companies are doing it for views and wanting to be the talk of the party. It’s all about marketing and calculating how many viewers they can bring in.

    • The few gays want to watch. Nobody else wants to see that.

    • @Usevdnxnd It was definitely an economic decision. Have you ever been to a comic convention? They are FULL of queer teenagers. Who happen to be the primary consumers of comic books. There are a lot of queer people and they’re the ones primarily buying comic books.

  • It's great, it's going to trigger a whole lot of people and that amuses me. But remember superman is an alien, perhaps that's the norm on his planet. But banging Lois lane, that's technically beastiality since they're not even the same species, yet no one bats an eye.

    • No, it's not the norm on his planet as has been shown since the story was created in 1938.

    • I 100% agree @purplepoppy

    • It is possible that earth was "Seeded" by early people from Krypton. So maybe the same species. Judgin by the looks and the organs and the other characteristics, they are basically the same except for the super strength, vision, etc. caused by the difference in suns. So not beastiality at all. But according to the history of Krypton, but I V Neverbeenthere, there was never a bisexual on Krypton, so very bad idea,

  • When did superhero’s ever start having a sexuality? This shit is weird honestly. My poor son won’t ever watch tv or read any of this shit

    • They've had sexuality since Jean Grey dated Cyclops, Clark Kent and Lex Luthor both trying to get with Lois Lane, Han Solo and Princess Leia, Rouge and Wolverine, Mystique and Magento, Spiderman and MJ, Batman and his female opposite, (same for every James Bond), etc, etc, ad nauseam. A better question would be, when hasn't romance been a predominate part of comic books and superheroes? It's high time a few of these romances/sexualities stepped outside of the heterosexual box.

    • @zeitgeist057 "So much sexuality, people are dating", lol! Constantine has always been bi, but it has always been a backdrop to his character. Unless it's relevant for conflict, it should always be a backdrop. Oh, by the way, it has been implied in a cartoon that constantine dated a sharkman and that he wouldn't ever date harley quinn because she's too toxic, even for him.

    • The gender of two people dating shows their sexuality, lol. A male and a female dating shows heterosexuality. Instead of "Jean Grey dated Cyclops" I can say for those like @anylolone who don't get it: Jean Grey and Cyclops had HETEROSEXUAL SEX with each other where he put his penis in her vagina and they had a daughter, who they named Rachel." Does that make it clearer for you lol

  • I think its an interesting character arc that might just rejuvenate interest in a dying character.

    • It isn't panning out like that. The least of the issues with this comic is that johnatan kent is bisexual in this incarnation.

    • @anylolone then oh well, I'm not particularly invested

  • Why can't they make a new character guy or should I say an old character unknown to many modern generations there's probably dozens of superheros DC have that I have never heard of that they could have done this with.

    • Some of them take the multi-verse route. Like Miles Morales as Spider-Man. But yeah, reinventing a character is dumb

  • Cool.

  • Ugh... sigh.

    My thoughts.

  • First thought - "fuck this pernicious woke culture"!

  • I think there's going to be a lot of super sore buttholes!

  • Not a problem, although I thought Grayson was already covering that aspect.

If someone is saving you, does their gender or sexuality really matter?

  • Superman's not gay. This is just for anger clicks. Just like Superman (Clark Kent) isn't black. Not falling for it. Fuck them, fuck that. Moving on.

  • Just another social experiment by people who are unable to create anything on the level of the characters that were created in the past... so they vandalize existing symbols and characters. DC and Disney/Marvel are pushing woke/homosexuality and have been for a while.

  • Whatever, I'd personally would have made a character they haven't introduced yet as gay or bi. Good luck is all I say.
Apparently q in bond is gay. Was that really a big deal. He's like a nothing character. Sexuality is so strange why announce it! Ugh!
Everyone's trying to be the next leader in 'great change' Yawn!

  • I don't care 🤷‍♀️
