Guys, are blue balls a real thing or just something that is made up?

Superb Opinion

  • 1. It's a real thing.

    2. The name is misleading for several reasons. Nothing actually turns blue, but "blue" was a common slang term 100 years ago for both sexual content (comedians who told "dirty jokes" were referred to as "working blue" and early porn was referred to as "blue movies") and for "shameful pain or injuries"). And the "balls" obviously refers to the testicles, but it's not actually testicles that the pain originates from, but rather the prostate gland, which is close by.

The prostate gland both creates semen (which doesn't yet contain sperm at this point - sperm gets injected into the semen during ejaculation) and stores it. Normally the prostate works at a leisurely pace to fill the "tank" with semen until it's maybe 80% full, but when a man becomes aroused, the prostates starts spooling up to make semen at a much faster rate, and the more aroused the man gets, the faster the prostate tries to work. The prostate fills to 100% and then keeps going, so that there is pressure starting to build. This would normally be painful immediately, but endorphins tend to mask this pain, so you just have the pressure that's building sexual tension, which is normally a good thing, as that sexual tension is useful in achieving orgasm. The longer the man is kept in an aroused state without ejaculating, the more the pressure (and tension) builds, expecting a release (ejaculation).

But if the release never comes - say, after a 20 minute intense make-out session - then the endorphins quickly wear off and suddenly the pressure and swelling of the prostate is causing pain that the guy can feel - it's like a combination of a bruise and a cramp - and everything in the lower crotch area is extremely sensitive to squeezing or the tiniest of impacts, because it's swollen and under pressure.

You might think "just jack off and relieve the pressure", but it's often not that simple. The pain and the swelling often make doing that impossible, or at least difficult and painful. Typically, it takes somewhere between 1-4 hours for the pain to go away on its own, but in extreme cases it can take a couple of days before things are completely back to normal.

This is one big reason why guys generally don't enjoy make-out sessions that don't go any further - they just lead to some significant physical pain for us. Once our engines get going, we need to complete the race, one way or another.

  • Blue balls are real.
    What Is Blue Balls?
Blue balls are slang for a condition sometimes referred to as epididymal hypertension. Epididymal hypertension is not a diagnosis per se, but rather another term used to characterize pain in the scrotum associated with prolonged sexual arousal without ejaculation.1

Doctors will more often use the term "acute scrotal pain" given that there are many possible causes for pain in the scrotum, testicles, epididymis (the tubes behind the testes that transport sperm), and spermatic cord.2

Though neither blue balls nor epididymal hypertension is commonly used terms in medical practice, they suggest a non-pathogenic condition associated with sexual arousal. If anything, the terms act as a placeholder until the doctor investigates other possible causes and ensures that a more serious condition is not involved.2

    Symptoms of Blue Balls
The symptoms of blue balls can be best described as an aching pain that occurs when prolonged sexual arousal is not concluded by ejaculation. The pain is often dull but can sometimes be sharp and extend into the lower abdomen and groin. There may also be a sensation of fullness in one or both testicles (although usually without any overt swelling).1

Blue balls may be differentiated from other types of acute scrotal pain in that the discomfort doesn't prevent sex.3 By contrast, scrotal pain caused by trauma will often interfere with the ability to have sex.

Despite its name, blue balls don't cause the scrotum or testicles to turn blue. If bluish or purplish discoloration occurs with acute pain and swelling, this may be a sign of a medical emergency known as testicular torsion.4
Scrotal pain that is chronic or occurs independently of sex should not be attributed to blue balls.2

    What Causes Blue Balls?
Blue balls is thought to be caused by the excessive accumulation of fluid in the epididymis during prolonged arousal. Without ejaculation, the "back up" of fluid can cause the epididymis to expand, causing discomfort or pain.1

Blue balls maybe also the consequence of delayed ejaculation (an extended lag between sexual arousal and climax)5 or semen retention (intentionally avoiding ejaculation).6

Because the symptoms are non-specific, doctors investigating blue balls will almost always investigate other possible causes of acute scrotal pain. These include:2

  • Given the widespread use of the phrase “blue balls”, it may come as no surprise that it is actually a real condition. Medically speaking, “blue balls” are known as epididymal hypertension (EH), which can occur when a male becomes sexually aroused for an extended period of time but does not have an orgasm. I hope that helps 🙂 you can Google this also - there’s plenty of information out there from reputable sources.

  • It is actually real and there were researches haha! - epididymal hypertension

  • It is VERY real! Especially in male's adolescence.
Atavistic innate desire in the presence of 'allure' pre-'cocks' the musculature
surrounding the Testes preparing to mix Spermatozoa with Seminal fluid.
Other muscles close the urinary tract to preclude urine into the Urethra.
And hormonally saturated blood courses into... but not out of the penis.
The longer the delayed release (climax) with time the muscles begin to cramp and ache.
This delayed 'edging' can cause extreme corpus coliseum tumescence
making the Penis experience hypersensitivity akin to an aching itch
from the nerve endings stretched taut amid the stretched penile dermis.

That 'edging' is unrequited need-to-uncramp and ejaculate is the source of 'blue balls.
"and... You WANT HER! ... And, RIGHT FUCKIN NOW! (Literally! )"

  • I never experienced that pain, but I believe its real based on the numbers who have experienced it.

  • It's a condition guys made up to guilt trip naive women into doing more with them.

    • Nah it’s real very real you must have just never had it

    • I've never had it, because it's not real. It's just a slang that lame ass virgin boys commonly mistake for a real thing because they want to sound super horny and experienced and whatever other lame shit. It doesn't exist. If your balls hurt from arousal, go see a doctor. Because that isn't normal.

    • You never had it because you never had it dumb dumb 😭 Literally just look it up. Blue balls, known medically as epididymal hypertension (EH), can affect people with male genitals. It’s not serious, but can cause pain and aching in the testicles after having an erection without an orgasm. That’s from healthline. com it was medically reviewed by Joseph Brito MD a literal doctor

  • I don’t know about the ‘blue’ part, but you CAN push them farther than they want to be pushed.

  • Yeah they hurt a little bit, but tend to be exaggerated.

  • It’s a real thing , Best way to describe it is, Once we get turned on and want to have sex with a girl or whatever kinky shit he is into , our brains send signals to are dicks to get erected a natural blood flow that gives us an erection , on top of that are sperm pretty much automatically gets loaded into a chamber like it’s locked and loaded and ready to go , picture a volcano that is about to abrupt from all the pressure build up that is about to explode once it gets enough pressure , but all of a sudden the top of the volcano gets blocked off and all that pressure build up inside has no where else to go to release it so it just sits inside trying to find a way out It might blow out the side of the volcano , so it’s kind of like a girl that decides she doesn’t want to go any further having sex , she changes her mind and kicks him off after he was already penetrating her , so now he is stuck with the pressure build up that he can’t release cuz it has no where else to go , so it causes blue balls and it hurts like hell , he will try to stop it to be respectful to her , but in some cases he can’t , cuz the pressure is already built up , but honestly , he is best to release it himself , but girls’ usually take it the wrong way , that he is just perverted and she finds him repulsive cuz he couldn’t hold it back for her and she thinks oh he doesn’t care about me , he just cares about getting off. Which is not the case what so ever , he just doesn’t want to have blue balls, and some guys can’t hold it back just depends on how close he was to ejaculating. So I hope this answers your question lol

  • Epididymal hypertension is a condition also known in slang terms as "blue balls". It occurs when the male is sexually stimulated but denied the release given by an orgasm.

  • That 'thing' about 'blue Balls' has been circulating around for a long time. Do a Google search or look on Wikipedia and it will tell you there is no such condition as 'blue Balls' Question has been asked several times on here.
