I'm not sure that they're easier on Christmas, but they're definitely easier around New Years. While Christmas is more of a romantic holiday, NYE is more of a "hot passion" holiday, and thus casual sex is more acceptable - and more desirable than being alone.

For the same reason, casual sex is less likely to happen on Valentine's day (because girls see that as more romantic than sexual), but more likely on St. Patrick's day or the 4th of July (US Independence Day), because those are more self-indulgent holidays.
