  • It is possible for sex to kick-start your period, but only if you have an orgasm during it and are nearing your start date and there are some logical things for it. Sex will kick start your period only if you have a very high orgasm. If you notice bleeding after sex, there may be another reason too; infections, vaginal tears, ovulation, and cancer are some reasons you might bleed after sex. The act of having an orgasm can actually kind of force some of that blood out because it is causing uterine contractions. Although this can happen, it only occurs if you are within a day or two of getting your period. Most of the time, starting your period soon after sex is just a coincidence. Many women (including me) are having sex frequently throughout the cycle and often, they are going to have sex and start their period close to that time and some of them get confused. (I never got confused).

There are a lot of other reasons that you could bleed after intercourse that are important to be aware of because some could require medical attention. Vaginal tears are a common reason for bleeding after sex. Tears can happen around the opening of the vagina or deeper inside, most occur as the result of dryness and vigorous sex. Women on the pill may be more prone to tears because birth control pills can cause the tissue of the vagina to be thinner. Small tears that bleed for a few minutes after sex are common, but more serious tears could require an emergency room visit and stitches.

The rate of blood flow and the amount of blood can help you distinguish between your period and a tear. If you are bleeding bright red blood profusely after sex, there is likely something else going on. Bleeding after sex could be a sign of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis. It could also indicate an infection known as pelvic inflammatory disease. Pain in the pelvic area, fever, or a large amount of bleeding, when it is not your period is all signs of a potential infection. It is important to see a doctor as soon as possible if you have any of these symptoms.

Ovulation occurs around day 14 of the menstrual cycle, and around the time of ovulation, many women who are not on the pill or who are not on a birth control may have spotting or light bleeding. it is important for women to track their cycles because knowing when you are ovulating could help you rule out chances of undesired pregnancy or other potential causes of bleeding. The worst thing is, vaginal bleeding after sex or between periods is a symptom of cervical cancer, uterine cancer, vaginal cancer or ovarian cancer. Non-cancerous growths on your cervix, known as cervical polyps, may also cause bleeding. If you are bleeding frequently during or after sex, it is important to go to a doctor.

  • Any adult man will not care. Its a natural thing.
The first time I had sex with my current partner (one of like 3 sex partners) I then bled so badly there was blood everywhere. Though most have the initial "oh fuck is that me bleeding" kind of response, then it normally switches to just concern of making sure their partner is okay.

  • I've never had that happen and, were it me, and I knew it was her aunt Flo coming for a visit, it wouldn't bother me at all. For that matter, I'd probably like it! If I DIDN'T know it was the start of her re dollar days, I might think I poked her too hard and ripped her open somewhere inside.
The closest I ever came to it is the time I asked her to let me fuck her while she was having her period. It didn't feel any different except that, when I pulled my dick out of her, it was coated in blood and, when it dried, it had a really nice soft velvety read coating to it that made the skin on my dick feel nice and soft!
And, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. If a guy's old enough to fuck you, he SHOULD also be old enough to know that you HAVE periods and that he MIGHT end up with a red dick, once in a while.

  • Guys should know (or learn if they don't know) what girls have periods approximately once a month, and that they can happen at any time. That's perfectly normal. Having sex on your period is okay if you plan in advance for a couple extra towels under you so you don't get blood on the sheets.

Sometimes, it's unexpected, like you describe. In which case, you handle it, and try to keep the blond from staining things.

My ex-wife and I used to sometimes have sex on her period. Other than the extra towels underneath her, all was normal. She said she liked it because the blood was additional lubrication.

What Girls & Guys Said

  • I would personally just kind of laugh it off. It is no big deal in the end of the day. It is a very natural thing that girls can't control. So there should be no shame in it. I am not a girl, but from a guy perspective, you should never feel embarrassed for that.

Also, before I get yelled at because I would laugh, I handle situations through comedy, it is not the best response, however it is just how I handle things.

  • Not a big deal in my first experience. I heard some people say it smells but I never noticed a smell. Just a tiny amount of blood on the tip of dick/condom. Well, I don't get why any guy would be upset about that when virgins bleed anyway without period. What's the big deal? You get a bit of blood on the tip of your dick.

  • Its a natural thing hun. If he makes a big deal out of it hspoening, that speaks volumes on his maturity. Note, thats to it happening, not on his stance on sex during menstruation. he's allowed to have his own stance on that.

  • This is no big deal. Most guys could care less about getting their dick a little bloody

    • There ARE some guys that want NOTHING to do with a girl's period because they seem to feel like it'll make their balls fall off and turn THEM into a girl, like that's a bad thing!

    • @FunkyMonkee yeah I don't like those types of guys

    • If nothing else, they're just kinda weird to think that way.

  • Wouldn't even phase me, just put a towel down and plough on.

  • It happens. It's not something to freak over. Normal biological occurrence.

  • It happens. No big deal.

  • It would be perfectly okay if that happened with my girlfriend. I wouldn't want her to feel embarrassed because women shouldn't ever feel shame or embarrassment about their periods.

  • We were having sex and she suddenly got more slippery at her belly and thighs. I finished up, got up and we looked like a crime scene. I knew what happened. I did not react much.

  • Lmao. That's kind of gross but the bottom line is "doesn't matter, had sex."

I've been in a similar situation, and it looked like my penis had commited a violent murder or bayonetted someone to death, lmfao.

Sex is gross sometimes. Is what it is.

    Can't really help that.

    • What's so gross about periods OR sex?

    • @FunkyMonkee Some natural bodily functions are kind of gross if you think about it hard enough... No? I mean, ideally, I do not want period blood or the like on me. Nor the smell from that. And Why do you think some people like to shower after sex? It's called doing the dirty for a reason. It can get a bit mess, hahaha. Also, they've done studies and psychologically, there are certain sights, smells and sounds about sex that we are likely to think are gross in normal scenarios, but when we are turned on we do not care. Because sex is natural and facilitates life. This does not mean that sex or periods are unnatural or inherently gross or wrong. Perspective and context is everything.

    • People that lick and fuck assholes is pretty gross but, a number of people still do it, for some reason. I've had period blood on my dick and it doesn't smell at all, from what I recall. I would think they'd get a shower because you have a tendency to get sweaty! Fucking is a lot of work, especially for a guy! Unless SHE gets on top. I don't know of anyone but a few prudes that EVER claimed sex was gross. Right! You eat what you wanna eat! You listen to what you wanna listen to. And, you fuck who you wanna fuck.

  • It is a natural process. It happens every month. No big deal, just throw down a couple of beach towels.

  • If it’s his first time he might be grossed out or think you are being hurt. If he’s got experience he’s going to ask if you are ok and be more in tune with what you need

  • No big deal, it's called "life".

  • How would I react? Probably just keep on fucking haha

  • I would say keep having sex. I would not worry about it

  • I would just enjoy the moment for what it is and clean up after

  • It's happened twice with me and once when I was fingering her.

  • My immediate reaction would be, OMG I BROKE YOU!!! OMG, OMG CALL 911!
Seriously I would be perfect ok and say to you, would you like a towel and a shower.

  • If he was not going down on you at the time he is probably okay with it. It would not have bothered me at all.

  • I'm sure there's a way to know ahead of time. I always know as I have an app tracker.. not knowing is like an excuse 😒 but whatever..

    • Sex can make periods come early. This has happened to me multiple times that right after or during sex my period starts even if it's a week or 10 days early

    • @Apple1996 Maybe it's something to do with all that poking around in there?

    • He definitely knocked me on my period.
