  • Of course. Although "sexy" might be a better word than "sex object". After all, many if not most men and women want to be seen as sexy.
However, the term "sex object" was coined by certain feminist types as a way to condemn men who see the female form as sexually appealing.
Objectification is defined as the action of degrading someone to the status of a mere object.
But if you don't even know a person, how can you judge or appreciate anything BUT their looks?
So I reject the term sex object except in cases where a person is incapable of appreciating anything but the appearance of someone of the opposite gender. People like that are fucked up.

So back to cheerleaders. They are hired for their fitness, athletic capabilities, and bubbly personalities, but also for their looks. Their uniforms are designed to be sexy. Watching beautiful, young women in their prime with bare legs and tight-fitting tops do high kicks and bounce their boobs is sexy. I doubt if there is a cheerleader who doesn't realize the sexy nature of their job. And again, what's wrong with being sexy?

  • Well, no one can control what goes on in the minds of others.

"Hey, it is art, the model is nude posing for a drawing class! It isn't sexual" Well, the truth is... they are naked in front of a room full of 20 or so people. 20 or so minds... no one has any control over how everyone is taking it in. In the minds of some of the guys it may very well be a sexually charged display that they are enjoying in a sexual manner.

It may not be intended for anything sexual but once you throw out all of the skin/flesh, you really have no control over how everyone is perceiving it.

I'm sure some guys view them sexually. Usually the girls have very fit and cute figures... the skirts are super, super short, the part underneath... they are like elastic panties, they are constantly lifting their legs, doing the splits in the air... etc. The male cheerleaders are covered from head to toe. You see their face and their arms from the bicep down. The girls are the one put in these super short skirts.

Does everyone view them sexually? No, of course not. Are a lot of people viewing them sexually? I'd guess they do.

  • Ronald Reagan, George W Bush, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Samuel Jackson, Steve Martin and Jimmy Stewart were cheerleaders.

  • Obviously, they serve not other real purpose.

  • Yes there is some sexual objectification but can we admit that they are not just that?

Yeah they have killer lags and show a lot of skin, but there is also athletic prowess involved that is the most important part of their job. I mean they have killer legs because they are athletic.

And before anyone gets on me about objectifying women, I am all for equal treatment, so while those cheerleaders are out there doing high kicks and throws and getting the crowd worked up, let's look over at those fine booties on the football players, with their white pants so tight that you can see the definition of their asses framed by their jockstraps.

All of you out on the field are fine and make my mouth water... Yes, even the band, because I have a thing for people who can play a musical instruments.

  • Isn't everyone to someone at least

  • No ideally they should not be seen as that.

the fact that women are viewed as simply sex objects and that clothing is seen as sexual is part of it.

In reality society does view them and treat them and similar as sex objects.

  • I mean no guy ever watches cheerleaders because they think there talented at whatever that is. It's more just the hot girls are always them and there fun to look at cause hot.
So i would say yes but in different words. More of Cheerleaders are just there for male gaze.

  • Yes, especially in the NFL.

  • The very concept of someone viewing someone else as a "sex object" is stupid because it implies that the person doing the viewing has no ability to sense the emotions in others otherwise known as a psychopath.

Sex appeal fits better because, even though it may be an illusion, it gives the feeling of female approval. I guess it inspires teams to do better.

  • hay they are the priest girl in schools and collages in skimpy dress up's so if that's not a sexy object i don't know what is!

  • of course they are!

  • I usually have sexual thoughts when watching them.

  • Yes, they are. Nice ones too.
