Guys, Is it normal for my penis to drip urine after peeing?

I'm currently 15 and I've been facing the issue for years where my penis drips urine for a good minute or two. I've heard it's common in older men but i was wondering if it's normal for my age. Any feedback is appreciated!

  • There could be any number of issues that cause this.

    1) The first and most obvious reason is you aren't giving it a good shake or two (or more... the old addage of more than two shakes and you're playing with it might leave too much urine in your urethra... just saying). Wiping with toilet paper is also a perfectly acceptable practice.

    2) You're not retracting your foreskin (if you're uncircumcised or circumcised loosely). Urine can collect behind the foreskin, and while it can drip out without issue for many men with a shake or two, pulling back your foreskin can help avoid drips.

    3) Your urethra is restricted at the tip. During the "height" of urination you may have enough force behind your urine for it to come out no problem, but as you finish urinating, that force goes down, and some may get temporarily left in the urethra, dripping out slowly after. This problem can be addressed by a urologist.

  • You give it the two shakes and a cleanup if needed and if that isn't enough something isn't quite as it should be.

I don't know a lot about this in particular but if there is no discomfort or anything else and the whole problem can be virtually ignored by staying in the bathroom one more minute it isn't that much cause for concern.

All the same, I'd ask someone. A school nurse, some qualified professional you know? My country has a whole bunch of free "ask a doctor" apps which basically forwards a question anonymously to a trained professional who then answers it when they have time (so probably while on the can themselves but that is life for you). You can likely find something similar if you have no one to turn to.

  • I had that problem since I was a teenager. Now I automatically force the remaining urine out by flexing my pelvic floor muscles. Same muscles that stop the glow of urine when you pee.

Go to the following url. The last two paragraphs will help you, hopefully. You're probably too young for the first 7 paragraphs.

  • There could be numerous reasons. Time to talk to your doctor.
