Girls, Be real for a moment; how often are you PERSONALLY being sexually harassed? Is male sexual aggression a regular part of your life?

I hear a lot of women being super vocal and loudly complaining about getting sexually harassed all the time. With the way these women talk, you would think that it happens on a daily basis and that women should be scared to exist in society because all these men constantly want to force themselves on women everywhere they go.

I've got to be real, I have a tough time believing that "women are under attack." And honestly, if it was happening that often, I feel like I'd see it happening. As things presently stand, unwanted advances seem like more of an exception than a rule and those were always very distinct and jarring experiences. I've only ever met three guys in my entire life who felt comfortable just forcing things on people. Every other man has been super respectful to women and understood boundaries; even standing against men who seemed like they were behaving inappropriately.

All that being said: I always want to believe abuse victims and I think it's important to hear concerns in a safe and private fashion. So, in closing; ladies, can you tell me how big a part of your life male sexual aggression really is.
It happens to me personally on a regular basis. (if you feel comfortable, include some context)

  • I'd love to just share my DM's to you.

Everything from guys inviting themselves into my marriage with my wife, saying what they want to do to me, asking questions about sexual habits and this is like 5 seconds after starting a DM with me. Some don't even bother saying hi first.

And that is just THIS site. It doesn't even include other places I visit. You know how fun it is to play a game with voice chat and get no communication about enemy positions because I'm getting asked about my personal life or getting hit on?

    • Yeah... See, this is one of those situations where I have absolutely no doubts that it's happening exactly like you say it is. The thing that makes it weird for me is that I've played online games before and I have never once seen another man treat a female teammate like that. Or if I have I could count the situations on one hand. Again, I have absolutely no doubts that it's happening, I just don't understand why I don't see it happening in my own life.

    • Gosh what games are you playing? I get that and the stale AF "women don't play games" meme. I also get more blame if we lose because of being a "handicap" to the team even though my stats are better

    • COD, Battlefield, WOW, Guildwars... I'm not much of a gamer anymore, so I've been out of the scene for a minute, but I used to be really into that kind of thing.

  • I think it's mostly the catcalling that most women experience regularly and people tend to ignore. It's why I won't typically go alone downtown in my own city. It's not usually one guy doing the harassment, but all the little comments add up. While I enjoy being able to turn a few heads, I don't need all the comments, keep them to yourself.

I have had a few bosses put their hands on my shoulder, or my back, and it's uncomfortable. I don't see them do with it male employees. I haven't had anything more overt than that. Thankfully.

There are some youtube videos of men's reactions to their mom, daughter, or girlfriend being videoed while walking and being catcalled. Check those out and you'll get a taste of what women experience when they don't have a guy with them.

  • It happens a couple of times a year.

    • Did you vote on the poll?

    • yes I voted first option

    • Oh okay. Now, do you consider a couple of times per year to be a lot, or is that a pretty low number to you?

  • How "regularly" does something have to happen before it's a problem?

  • Happens everyday but I'm not that affected, tbh.
