Do you moan about prices of stuff but splash out on hobby stuff?

First of all apologizes for the weird title, I couldn't think of one made sense.

My father has just splashed out £60 on 3 plastic fishing lures that will sit in a box until May alongside a tonne of others that have barely gotten wet. But if he needs a new pair of pants he'll moan and groan if he's got to pay more than £10.

So are you more willing to splash the cash on hobby purchases than stuff you really need?

Superb Opinion

  • No , not really. Call my hobby Sports , golf in particular , I used to own a golf shop , so when I say " No not really " , if the lures were " balls " nope I ain't paying 60 quid..
So say the specialty clubs , Drivers / Specialty wedges / putter , my shop sold Superseded / Over runs / Non popular , etc etc , that worked really well. So say one driver was $1500 aud ( maybe just 900 then ) , Id have the one just below , just outdated at say $299 , just did this across the board , so I never just buy the latest ( thats bullshit ) , so I wheel and deal around , and end up with a really good clubs and stuff , but Id never spend much on it..
Pretty much all my customers were same , all about value.

  • Yes I am the same way. I whine about the price of almost anything I have to buy. My hobbies are a little different. My snowmobile went down 2 days ago. Had to get it towed into the shop. Got a price on parts today. I'm looking at $2000 - $2500 for repairs. I'm not happy but I'm going to put the money out to get it repaired.

  • It's in the sexuality section obviously because it refers to someone resisting putting on pants but instead wants to master bait his rod.

That being said, generally I'm the same with games, but I sort of collect them so I guess it makes a little sense.

  • I don't really spend more on hobby stuff, here is the kicker though. I found if I skip all that de-stressing fun stuff, I get super depressed and have a hard time going to work.

I need to have other fun non-work stuff to do, from vacations to hobby's. Without it I have trouble continuing to go to work. As such I kind of tie that in rather than hobby, more like work related supplies to be able to continue working.

I don't know if others are like me, but without any of that I just get to the point where I stop going to work. Seems like a good investment to me.

  • I spent £2k on new discs and pads for my car today.

I am happy buying a pair of Church’s shoes, however will not pay more than £20 on a T shirt lol.

Oh and I only buy cheap biscuits, as Asda or Morrisons Ginger snaps at 40p or whatever they are atm.

  • Didn't you know that's why guys buy stuff and don't have any problems about it because the moment did that problem might come up they moan because all of a sudden they see that beautiful woman in front of that they might have spent that money on they moan in pleasure it takes away all the pain and that's why your question ended up in the sex Department they I know exactly why your dad was boning I mean moaning because it's okay if he moans it all just disappears

  • Never heard the phrase "splash out" before...

    • English English.

  • Yeah I hate spending too much on replacing clothes, yet I've just put in an order for gym equipment to kit out a new home gym, its going to run me about £6k. And then tvere is the adaptations to the room to take the additional load on the floor and then redecorating with a mirrored wall. Might throw in a sex swing!

  • Yes I want to have my cake and eat it to when it comes to video games, guns, ammo, and good food.

  • It ended up in the sexuality sect because a lot of people on GaG have sex as a hobby.

  • I don't moan but I will look for the best deal and walk away if something is too expensive then spend quite freely for stuff I enjoy so I just found out that I can get decent joggers for £8 a pair from Sportsdirect and in the same shopping session spend £340 on a bottle of 26 year old Glenfiddich

  • Yeah I think you mean splurge on but I can see that because that’s their passion and will spend more on that but feel it’s a waste on other things

  • When I was broke I was cheap on everything else so I could afford my hobbies

  • Yeah that’s me. I won’t even buy pants unless they r hobby pants

  • I don't save at all and could u tell ur father that his son in law is here?

  • A fisherman knows the right tools. I don't shell out for hobby, but Don't shell out for clothes easily either

  • Yeah all the time it is bad

  • Nope. Hobby stuff is too expensive as well. I'm old so I get to moan about whatever I want to. It's the privilege we get when we get old. Just ask any old person.

  • Lol you go dad
