Did you ever have any secret places/spots you would go to as a kid growing up?

  • There was a big field near our house with high tension electrical towers. We used to play there all the time, dig holes, make forts, etc.

But a secret place was the 4' wide space between our garage and the one that belonged to the neighbors who lived behind us. A 5' high cinder block wall divided our back yards, and there was a T at the end to block off the space between the garages. There was no fence on the other side, though.
As soon as I was old enough to reach the top of the wall (5 years old?), I would climb it and use that space as a get away. It felt like a secret hide out.
Plus from the back yard on the other end of the gap, we could get the next street over from ours.

  • well i guess just the roof of our house at times. i could climb onto it from our side gate.

  • Under the deck, and when I was small enough, there was a wide row of “hedges,” but a little kid could get through the them pretty easily and just hang out in between the rows. Those were sort of my “hiding spots” when I was younger, but I didn’t really have that much when I got older. I’d usually just go to my room or go downstairs to my office.

  • I used to like to go in any vehicles or farm trucks that were around.
I would pretend to drive and shift gears. Then sometimes I would climb the tv antenna and walk around on the roof of the house and lay up there looking at the clouds.

  • The basement.

  • There was a large tree in our backyard that had a split trunk. When I wanted to be alone and just chill, I would climb up the tree to where the split was. Rarely could anyone find me.

  • I had a secret clubhouse in the backyard of my father's house.

  • I grew up in a rural village, bordered by fields and clumps of trees. I could get lost in that paradise for hours on end.

  • Yes, mine was at the top of a tall pine tree in our front yard. I use to sit on a perch and nobody ever knew where I was.

  • Many, I lived next to a small hill covered with a forest, there was plenty of spots there. Mostly cabins we made as kids.

  • It wasn't the best as we were in the city. But the alley behind my house had a little spot where we would hang out sometimes

  • A group of teenagers built a "cabin" in the woods near a secret swimming hole. You had to have a guide to get there the first few times if invited. Great skinny dipping spot.

  • More than I can count.
