Child sexuality?

Are we forcing it or do we need to accept it? Do you feel like we as a society are forcing sexuality upon children or do you think that children have sexual desires and that we need to accept them as sexual beings?

  • Sex is an adult situation. Kids should not be in adult situations. Doing so does not help them in any way because it does not make them adults any earlier; if anything, it only contributes to making them seriously maladjusted individuals. Aren't there enough such people in the world? If I'm putting my kid in adult situations such as sex, I have abdicated my responsibility as a parent. I think that sexuality is being foisted and/or forced upon children in the west. To me this has unsettling implications. Kids have enough to deal with as kids; do we really want to add sex to the list of things that our 9 year old daughters are worried about?

  • No we're not forcing anything upon children and if you look back through the last several hundred years of human history you'll see my point. The reason we Shield children or anyone else from sexuality for that matter is due to Catholicism

    • I don't really feel that we are forcing it upon them either. According to scientific papers girls can experience full orgasms as early as 2. But I do feel we are causing a lot of mental health issues for them by trying to stifle their right to expression. And I can't really blame catholicism as much as I would blame the industrial evolution and science with their psycho-babble and the government wanting to keep power over everyone. I don't really think kids should be treated like property.

    • Erase some very good points there which I happen to agree with you on. History in our culture and in other cultures speaks otherwise. Even today it's no secret that children are treated like property in many parts of the world

  • I can speak only for myself. I "discovered" masturbation when I was 7. I never know if my parents were aware, but I have a feeling they were. Even though we are a very open naturist family, it felt like it should be private and hidden away. I cannot imagine many families talking about it.

The one thing that does worry me sometimes is these child pageants that happen in some countries. Kids are dolled up with makeup and seem to be portrayed older than their years.

    • I also discovered masturbation at around 7-8 years old. I feel like it is a problem for children's mental health to be told that it is wrong and shameful. And I feel like if children should be allowed to choose which gender they identify as they should also be allowed to explore their sexuality. I think it is all the shaming and demanding kids to keep it a secret that is the main problem behind child sexual abuse.

  • We need to let them be kids

    • I fully agree 💯 but is that by supporting their decisions and allowing them to explore without judgement and repercussions or is it by continuing to try and keep them sheltered by what we view as adult stuff?

    • @Avicenna exactly!

  • No I don’t think so

    • You don't think so? Could you elaborate a little more on that?
