Why is there such a high percentage of lesbians same sex in womens Sport , when male percentages are either untrue or vastly different %ages?

Why are percentages so high?
Why are percentages so high?
So I was listening to the AFL commentator and he said " The sisters move the ball quickly " . where he was picked up my the female commentator explaining there were " wife and wife " not sisters. Now firstly does it even matter? Why is a lesbian woman more attracted to physical sport? like football , Rugby , even cricket , Does this put off participation of others?
Why when you consider the same sport AFL , no gay men playing? ( supposedly anyhow ) , to me all this makes no sense , I just can't fathom a realistic answer , I think percentages may be as high at 70 % .
I had a female friend who used to love the females only gym , until she was hit on by that many women , she figured it was worse than the mixed gender gym.

I still find this question fascinating and Id love to see a proper experiment with control groups , but it will never happen. How could that female percentage be so high? How is it that the male percentage is so low? - Or is it really? A very interesting hypothesis , to even reach an hypothesis , as the numbers just DONT make sense , and Im certain there is an interesting scenario.

  • I'd say there are two things at play here, sport is a very physically demanding activity, and therefore potentially attracts more physically masculine women for strength speed and agility. Some of those traits are more evident in lesbian women, obviously not all but definitely a higher percentage.
Secondly there are almost certainly more gay men in sport than we know of, because it's just not the done thing to come out as gay if you're a sportsman, not only the ridicule, but also having your teammates treat you you differently can affect your game, and if you're not playing as a team then you're not an effective sportsman.

    • Agree with all that , but I dont think the male percentages are 70 % , I know there must be some gays in AFL , and BI , reckon I've even seen some examples , not one has come out , but thinking of swimming Ian Thorpe did not come out till long after he quit , virtually everyone knew he was gay.

    • It could also be that many gay guys are not quite so masculine and therefore wouldn't be attracted to sports as much. But yes I agree the percentage is probably not as high for men.

    • Thanks for the MHO 👍🏻

  • Simply because women are not afraid to come out and they are less judged when they do.
Men are highly judged for such thing, I remember one german football player (soccer) named Hitzlesberger, he didn't come out as gay till he retired.

    • Same as Aussie swimmer Ian Thorpe.. but 70% of these women ( AFL ) , thats high !

    • Australia is more progressive than USA

    • Yes , but that is kind of the centre of the question , they say all is equal yet not one AFL male player has come out? Where I estimate 70 % of AFLW are lesbian.

  • Should be VERY VERY obvious to anyone.

If a guy who plays for a Premier Team in English football league came out, his career would be over.

It is simply down to preservation of their career.

Also World Cup in Qatar, being homosexual can result in 3 years imprisonment…

It is more acceptably AND far Safer a girl being a lesbian, than it is for a guy being gay.

Now put in the huge amount of homophobia in mens sport, it is pretty much suicidal to come out.

    • I agree , but in AFL they should be able to come out , its just Australia , some NRL guys have. My guesstimate , 70 % of the females are gay.

  • Because masculinity is what draws people to sport and makes them successful at it.

  • I guess a lot of straight women growing up focus a lot on getting men than playing sport.

    • I guess Im questioning , Would it put the straight women OFF playing? I dont know .. We had an Australian male commentator sacked , because he said " xyzz is a awesome girl , great nature , incredible socially - sadly she has her liquor ( lick her ) license " he said it privately but it had been taped. Do you think that's offensive?

    • I used to play soccer and was good, once I met my boyfriend it all went out the window

    • Id would think thats common , but depends how much you love the sport -- Were you worried about the number that were lesbian? Lots of soccer players are also..
