Why are more women LGBTQ+ than men?

For example, if we take a look at these facts

According to the Gallup Poll
9.5% of women, and 5.4% of men labelled themselves as LGBTQ+
Specifically
Homosexuality = 2.6% of men, 2.3% of women
Bisexuality = 2.0% of men, 6.0% of women
Transexuality = 0.6% of men, 0.8% of women
Other = 0.2% of men, 0.4% of women

According to the CDC's NHIS and NSFG
- 7.3% of men, and 20.8% of women have had sexual contact with the same sex
- 90.6% of men, and 76.8% of women are only attracted to the opposite sex, meaning that more women claim same sex attractions
- 95.1% of men, and 89.6% of women reported being heterosexual
- 1.8% of men, and 2.7% of women reported being homosexual
- 1.8% of men, and 7.7% of women reported being bisexual

According to the CDC's YRBSS
Homosexuality = 2.1% male, 2.9% female
Bisexuality = 3.4% male, 13.9% female
Not Sure = 3.2% male, 5.6% female

According to the BBC
"They found that between 2011 and 2019, college-age women had increasingly moved away from exclusive heterosexuality. In 2019, 65% of women reported only being attracted to men, a notable decrease from 77% in 2011. The number of women exclusively having sex with men also dropped between those years. Meanwhile, men’s attraction and sexual behaviour stayed mostly static in the same time frame: about 85% reported sexual attraction to women only, and close to 90% reported engaging in sex exclusively with women."

What we can clearly see is that.
1. Homosexuality is relatively equal between men and women
2. Bisexuality is far more common in women
3. The LGBTQ+ community is dominantly female
4. Women are more likely to have same sex attractions
5. Women are more likely to have same sex relations

According to the "To bi or not to bi? Enquête sur l'attirance sexuelle entre femmes " by IFOP 8% of the female population identified According to CBS. nl article ""Lesbian couples likelier to break up than male couples"" "By 2015, approximately 21,330 same-sex couples had married in the Netherlands; 11,195 lesbian couples and 10,135 male couples" So as we can see, in a nation like the Netherlands, there are more LGBTQ+ women as well.

Superb Opinion

  • There is a lot more stigma on queer men than there are women due ti the sexualization of sapphic (woman-woman) relationships, while men are often insulted or attacked for even being percieved as gay. It's a shitty double standard.

    • That is very true, and I would say has somewhat of an influence on it! Well said!

    • Would you be alright with giving some advice? follow me if its okay :)

Most Helpful Girl

  • I think women have been normalized while men are slowly getting there.

What Girls & Guys Said

  • to start with women have always been allowed to be open about their feelings unlike men that from the time they are toddlers are treated differently than girls when they cry. Men since childhood have always been told to toughen up and suck it up. I work in a classroom and I noticed it a month's older teachers the girls will cry and they hug him and comfort them and dry their tears the boys cry and they tell him to stop crying that there's no reason to cry. This pressure on men at a young age to hide who they are or what they're feeling makes it very difficult for them to come out.
Another thing to consider is girls are always allowed to be more affectionate. Guys when growing up some of their dads might have been more like give me high five or chest bump. But with a girl the same dad may be more affectionate hugs and kisses more often. As girls get older and they still hug and kiss. It's not really frown upon when teen girls are hugging and petting each other's hair but if a boy was attempt the same thing with another boy who's a friend I can guarantee you that the friend isn't going to want to be friends with that kid. It's been seen almost as taboo for men to be affectionate openly with other men even if they're literally just friends. You don't always see men hugging as friends. So a man in a situation where he might be gay may very well feel uncomfortable about showing affection to the one he's in love with in public because he's been raised not to do so at least not openly
Another thing to It has always been seen as attractive or sexy when two women are together. That's why men watch a lot of porn involving two women. They get turned on Even some women are willing to watch women on women porn and they say they're not lesbians. But when have you ever heard of a straight man or a straight woman watching and enjoying two men together. It's shouldn't be a bias matter if women could do it you would think men could do it too but in truth it's taboo. so these factors make it much easier for women to come out. It's just the way girls and guys have been treated differently from the moment they are young till now as adults.

    • This is a really good answer! I really appreciate it Would you be comfortable talking about this topic?

  • Society/culture. At present it's more tolerated/encouraged for women to engage in homosexuality so its more prevalent among women. wasn't always like that, nor in other cultures.

  • Woman are more open to be them self
