I woke up to my friends with benefits staring at me

and now he is acting very distant. As far as I can tell the night we spent together was no different to other nights except that we talked a lot afterward and he did mention "next time..." but I didn't think much of that considering it is a friends with benefits relationship and so he is not exactly a one night stand. The next morning I woke up and he was just lying there watching me sleep so I smiled at him but then he rolled onto his other side and I was thinking "well that's weird but whatever" and went back to sleep. He went back to sleep and ended up going into work late even though he set his alarm to go in at the right time instead he stayed in bed with me for thrIee more hours but we just slept. Anyway I didn't act differently or do anything I normally wouldn't with him and I'm just wondering if you could give me some insight as to why he would be acting distant after the last night we spent together the only thing I can think of that was different was that he was watching me sleep and I caught him in the act?
