Why do women not appreciate male nudity?

Is it mostly society or mostly biological? I myself love the male body but many girls are like eh ... Playgirl magazine is 75% gay male readers and only 25% females. Why is that?

  • Dude, who knows. But I have a strong hunch that it has to do with how women are brought up and influenced by society. Neither sex is really "allowed" to express attraction, especially sexual attraction, in our society. But the ones most pressured by this are women, who are taught to never show any kind of overt attraction for fear of being negatively labeled. Yes there are natural differences between male and female sexuality and sex drives, but by societal influences women are the gender expected to cover it up.

I was reading about this just yesterday actually, so I'll share this link that gives excellent reasons why sexuality in our society is severely screwed up.

It's an interesting, well-written read and I recommend you taking the time to read it. Do you think it addresses the issue of women and male nudity?

  • It's because men need only an image (or a body they find attractive) to get horny and want sex. Women usually need some kind of an emotional connection before an image or body can get them aroused. That's why girls generally hate random dick pics being sent to them, but a pic of their boyfriend's dick can get them hot and bothered.

It's not that women don't appreciate male nudity, it's just that most women have a pre-requisite (an emotional connection with said guy) before she can appreciate his nudity.

This is a fundamental difference between men and women that most people don't get, and typically each gender assumes the opposite gender works the same way they do, and get confused when they don't. If people understood this better, relationships would be far simpler.

    • an emotional connection with said guy That's not true or else women wouldn't hook up with guys. I personally think its double standards.

    • MOST women - of course there are exceptions; girls who don't need an emotional connection to get hot over a guy's image. But exceptions they are. Another exception are the guys who are "10s" - Abercrombie models, athletes, and celebs are frequently on that list, but so are extremely hot guys a girl might run into at a club or bar or whatever. Extreme hotness can override the need for an emotional connection - it's just that "10s" are rare.

    • not disagreeing with you there but an 8 or a 9 will do the trick for me. lol

  • I enjoy looking at the male physique, of course. Men are beautiful creatures, every part of them. However, I don't get anything out of looking at a still picture. It literally does nothing for me. I need to hear them speak, see them move, smile, I need to see them alive, basically, to feel turned on.

It simply takes more than photos to get me hot. Men can often get hot just by looking at stills, therefore, magazines satiate them sometimes.

  • because girls are smart enough to look it up online and not buy a magazine lol idk

    • exactly lol

    • Now That's funny!

  • It's nature and not really society though a little bit yes while biological is also nature :) But that's how nature's made us both men and women. Men do get stimulated visually more than women and women tend to keep the idea under wraps for the same reason why you are anon here :)

It's not that women don't get turned on by looking at a man's body they do but the ratio of visual stimulation is tilted more to men by nature. Which also explains why 75% of purchases are done by gay male :)

It's surely more than the 25% who are attracted to the male body but for various reasons they will probably either look at it on the internet or direct sources :)

But whichever way nature has ordained that men are turned on visually more while women are not turned on just visually, a woman's brain is hardwired to have a whole recipe of various things like love, romance, certain ideas about how he / it should be etc for being turned on - generally :)

  • They simply do not find a dangling swinging **** appealing, funny yes.

    • Those girls are immature. Yes its much better looking hard but never funny.

  • Guys and girls are liked for different reasons. Guys are liked by girls because of our resources and how out commitment can help raise a child. Girls are liked by guys for their fertility, which is why us guys like looks. We like clear skin because it means you're health, wide hips and a round ass communicates you've got resources to raise a child, and heels make you look taller and your butt bigger. As far as play girl being mostly gay men I think it's because most women prefer to read their p*rn which would explain why guys mostly look at it as well.

    • because of our resources and how out commitment can help raise a child. That doesn't make a guy hot. If he has all that I'm not interested he needs to be good looking first and foremost and most women will agree with me physical attraction comes first its the first thing we notice. I won't even talk to a guy at the bar unless he's attractive.

    • And there's a reason why women like taller guys and broader shoulders. Just like guys like hips.

  • They conducted a study about measuring hormone levels while viewing nude pictures of the opposite sex. A male's blood chemistry was altered much more than a female's.

One explanation is that women have a lot more invested in their offspring. For much of human history, having a child was potentially lethal and it could put a woman out of action for several years. She needed to choose her mate very carefully, with many more other traits than health involved.

For men, child rearing isn't lethal and sperm is cheap. Hence we evolved with youth and health being the foremost criteria. Women who are young and healthy are attractive because they have the greatest potential to survive childbirth and raise the child, thus ensuring our genes get past down to other generations.

    • I don't subscribe to that myth at all. The theory is that men are more stimulated by visual images than men are. Not at all. But I would agree the types of visual stimuli are different. For example, many women enjoy p*rn. However, they often choose a softer version-- not violent, more kissing, more romantic. There are production companies that cater to just that kind of thing. Men look at Playboy. Compare that to women looking at men in magazines or in movies. They enjoy the images just as much,

    • but the images may be more subtle-- partially clothed or with some gauzy cover-up. Likewise, many women like to see their man making love to them. They like to look at his body, see themselves together in intimacy. But again, most women prefer soft lighting or candles to stark lighting. So I don't believe at all that women are less visual. They just have differences in they type of visual stimulation. Found that on yahoo answers.

    • Interesting.

  • Hmm, I don't know about other countries, but here in the USA, men go without shirts all the time here, there everywhere. Women NEVER go without a shirt and/or bra in public (in front of a guy she doesn't know) at any given time, except by accident. Guys never see it and get very curious. As for women, they've either stared at my crotch or asked questions about it, the girls in high school were especially naughty when it came to that & me being just about the only guy in the class didn't help, LOL!

    • So janice89, what kind of guy you find attractive... The Peewee Herman type, or Conan the Barbarian type? Sometimes it makes me wonder if that has anything to do with it.

    • Janice87... I mean

    • Conan. I guess since the media shows Bieber types and Zach Efron girls like skinnier hairless guys.

  • Regarding magazines: it's quite simple. It barely takes any effort for a woman to get a man naked, while homos have to figure out whether another guy is homo or normal first before they try to move in (bleh, gross). That's why they are more willing to pay for some magazine to look at some handsome men.

Not sure why they are buying those magazines instead of finding all that stuff for free online though...

  • women are not visual...and male bodies are not that attractive after all...

    • Wrong and wrong. Just because we aren't' as visual as men doesn't mean we aren't visual at all. Just because men are hornier doesn't mean we aren't horny at all. You can't have a scale be 100 on one side and 0 on the other. Men might be a 95 on the visual scale and women a 55. It varies from person to person.

  • Society and hiding it I think.

  • women being so reserved like this is why it's so surprising when they go crazy when they're in bed with you, so they have the same urges they just show them at different times

  • Women are fantasizers. Why would go out and buy a magazine?

  • I think it's purely a society thing. I absolutely believe cave women got turned on the same basic way cave men did. Women needing protection from wild animals totally makes it seem like women are wired to get turned seeing men with powerful athletic bodies ( muscles and muscle definition aka chiseledness lol.) There are many things wrong with our society contributing to the myth of women being less visual I believe.

  • The answer is obvious. Women are not nearly as visually stimulated as men are. Why do people try to dispute that in the face of clear evidence like this?

    • Recent evidence suggests otherwise.

    • The study, carried out by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis measured brainwave activity of 264 women as they viewed a series of 55 color slides that contained various scenes from water skiers to snarling dogs to partially-clad couples in sensual poses. The researchers were interested in the speed, strength, and location of brainwave activity of the subjects as they viewed erotic versus non-erotic images.

    • based on those data we would expect lower responses in women, but that was not the case. Women have responses as strong as those seen in men."

  • your a girl you tell us why?

  • I'm sure a lot of women like it. I have nothing against it but it turns me off so I don't look at it. Everyone is different, so.

  • Guys just aren't attractive

    • Me and 98% of women disagree (2% lesbian agree with you). It's just that some women don't like penises and some do. They like what they do just not how they look. I like what they do and how they look guess I'd be labeled a gay man by people. Funny how society criticizes straight women who love sex.

    • Almost all of the girls on this website don't find it attractive. Just a few do

    • Well this is one website. And I guarantee they find their boyfriends attractive only because society tells them once its their boyfriend they can say anything without being labeled slutty.
