Ovulation: The Fertile Window

It is important to know your cycle. You are most likely to get pregnant around your time of ovulation (When an egg is released from your ovaries). In an average 28-day cycle, the fertile window is approximately 5-6 days. This fertile window occurs 10 -17 days after the first day of your last period (day #1 of the ovulation cycle) with days 13 and 14 being the days you are most likely to conceive. This means that if you had sex during this time-period, you are at the greatest risk of getting pregnant.

It is important to remember that although an egg only lasts 24 hours after ovulations, sperm can live up to 5 days in a woman's body, so if you have sex right after your period, you are approaching your fertile window.

Diet & weight changes

Diets, such as high-fibre diets and diets that are too low in fats, have been shown to influence a woman's menstrual cycle. Rapid weight gain or weight loss may also prevent your period from occurring, by producing too much or too little estrogen.
