Why do (practically) all girls deny they masturbate?

There have been some questions on here lately which show that guys have no idea how much girls masturbate. Quite a few of my friends (girls) have admitted to me they do it, although they swore me to secrecy. Some of them said they thought other girls would think they were "slutty" if they did or that they were just embarrassed about it. So why do they deny it? And you you think that less and less girls will deny this as time goes on?

Also, a lot of girls think they are in the minority when they masturbate, like they are strange or a freak.

  • I don't know about anyone else, but it's always seemed to me like sex (and related things/activities/whatever) is a bad thing. I've just always gotten that impression in general. It's like, we joke, but talking about it seriously makes me feel like I would be judged and/or considered a slut for talking about masturbating and/or doing anything else.

    Sex and especially masturbating /isn't/ a bad thing and we should all be able to talk about it seriously. I think that part of why teens have sex and such so early is because they feel the need to experment on their own since no one wants to talk to them about it.

    • Good answer. I agree mostly except I don't think teens are having sex early or experimenting because no one wants to talk to them about it. I think most teens would do it anyway and they will use any excuse to justify it. It should be talked about openly though with respectable adults who will give the facts without too much spin.

    • And I mean, yeah, a good bit of it does have to do with the fact that they'll do it anyway, but I think it wouldn't be as much of a problem if people would talk to them about it. I mean, like my mom for example, never got ANY sort of sex talk from her parents, so she went out and tried it all. And I haven't tried it all because I know I have people I can ask, like my mom. And anyway, just in general, knowledge is never wasted and education is a good thing. Ya know?

  • I can't say that its something I will randomly bring up in a conversation, but I've never actually denied it if I have been asked if I do it. I think people seem to think that its wrong and sinful, but I consider it to be a healthy way to deal with my body's desires

  • It's unladylike. It's not something you just tell anyone. It's a private matter that no one needs to know about. It's very personal and while guys will pretty much tell anyone they masturbate girls have a little more self respect and not to mention class.

    The social stigma is slowly changing however. It's less and less socially improper for a woman to masturbate as time goes on. It'll probably still be kind of bad form to just announce it though. =P

  • It's because girls are usually more prude about sex and unlike most men they think it's personal. I wouldn't go around telling strangers about it. In fact I wouldn't even talk about it with my friends really. It's none of anyone's business but my own.

  • hm.. I think maybe the age of the gurls you are talking to has a lot to do with why they would be uncomfortable about their sexuality. Eventually, they will grow out of trying to be "lady like" that is so last century.

  • I think its mostly cause its associated with sexuality and we usually look at guys as sex crazy animals and we like to reserve that side of things for them .. Not us.
