After trimming pubic hair does it feel scratchy or uncomfortable?

I just trimmed my pubic hair last night and now the hair feels coarse and stiff. It feels scratchy in my underwear and poky. It feels like it is poking my skin and some strands poked out of my underwear which is uncomfortable. I didn't cut it super short, It's 2-3cm long for the hair. I was wondering if there is a way to avoid this and how I can trim the hair?

  • I shave my pubic hair off like many other people. I can confirm with you that the first time I did this, I found it itchy and scratchy for a few days. After that it stopped, so I no longer feel any itchyness around that area. There was a period where I was unable to shave for two weeks, so when I got round to doing it, it was like doing it for the first time with the itchyness returning. So your body will get use to it quickly, though 2-3 cm can in no way be considered short, I would consider that long lol :P

    • Do you get the itch from the short hair or because of the razor? I wanted to trim and not leave it completely bare, but the hair feels scratchy. I didn't want to cut it shorter than 2-3cm otherwise it'll look spiky right? I just didn't want it too long.

    • The itch will be caused by the short hair, because when you cut it you make it slightly sharper at the tips. It can happen when you get a hair cut (on your head). Over the first day or two you sharp hair will dull down and your body will adjust to not become overly sensitive to it (like you wearing clothes you forget 99% of the time as your brain ignores the signals).

    • I see. Thank you for the answer :) I guess I'll wait for it to dull down.

  • Natural hair feathers to a soft blunt end. Shaved leaves a sharp end like carving a stick with a knife and will be prickly when it grows out. A shaver square cuts, also prickly. The sharp edges wear down over time. Except at the edges, a bikini trim will be less prickly because the hair lays down.

    • Ah I see. Thank you for the explanation. I guess it applies for cutting or trimming as well, as I didn't actually shave it.

  • Shaving or trimming hair down there leaves them scratchy. There's no way to avoid it, that's why many recommends to leave it natural or wax (but this procedure is painful)

    • Oh I see. So I can't make it less scratchy then. I plucked around the bikini area but wanted to make it look natural though.

    • I mean the bikini line area :P

  • Omg yes. But if I shave it I also have razor burn. It's so annoying. But I'd rather have scratchy ness instead of razor burn

  • If you want, you can apply conditioner to it like you do to the hair on your scalp. It'll make it more smooth and diminish any discomfort you may have.

    • Ah I'll try that. Thanks!

  • Yeah I've tried it before and It was very itchy, the hair down their is much rougher (at least for me) I find using shaving cream / after shave helps, also try cutting what you can with scissors first, razors tend to make the hair sharper :)

    • Oh I might try using cream then. I don't wish to shave it though, kinda want to make it look natural.

  • The only thing I'd really recommend is maybe leaving a little more hair left rather than trying to get it as short as possible without shaving. That's what I do with mine, and it feels fairly soft after trimming. It's not like a little hair sticking out is going to kill you (hopefully).

    • I'll probably try trimming less next time then. About how long do you let the length be?

  • When it's too short and prickly it's itchy.

  • Well I think the first or second time I shaved there the hairs were poking me while they were growing back in
