Why people are so scared of STDs?

I've heard (irl) and read (here) a lot of opinions that I won't sleep with random people because of STDs

I mean just put on condom and have a blast! Why so scared? (IF the reason is STDs, not love or something)

  • I'm one of those people who refuses to sleep with random people because of STD's. No offense, but STD's are disgusting and problematic. They physically look so nasty; sometimes they involve blistering and puss. I still remember those pictures from health class! As a woman, some STD's can prevent you from being able to deliver your child naturally because you could risk exposing an innocent baby to genital warts. Not only that, but they're supposed to be uncomfortable stinging, burning, and itching. They decrease the health and appearance of your genital. Personally, I just don't think they're worth momentary bliss that I'm sure I could easily find elsewhere.

Not only that, but I find nothing appealing in being used like a fleshlight with a heartbeat. One night stands are SO sleazy and gross to me. I don't like the idea of waking up in an empty bed or knowing that some girl he's actually dating will probably kiss his lips a few days later and my vaggie had been all over them. Just not my thing AT ALL.

    • Very good. I must say, very good. Thanks for your time :)

    • @Asker You're welcome :)

  • Condoms don't protect from all STDs, such as genital herpes (during an outbreak). And herpes are for life...
Plus if the condom breaks or something, there is a chance of pregnancy. I don't want to risk those things unless I love the guy.

    • If you love the guy, could you risk herpes?

    • Probably. When I'm in love, I'll let you know for sure. ;)

  • Some STDs can be past on even when you wear a condom, but those STDs won't kill you.

I think it's the stigma they're scared of once they contract STDs, they're not really scared of the STDs that are curable.

  • Dude take a step back and just recognize how disturbing it's gotta be to have VD. Just google some images and you'll understand. And even furthermore a lot of those pathogens can be reoccurring or life long diseases you have to live with. Imagine the last time you had the flu, it's like the worst 2 weeks of your life all you do is wait for the horrible hindrance to go away. Imagine if you never get that elated sense of gratitude. Nope instead you have aids for the rest of your life. Now I'm not saying to be afraid your whole life about this. But it is something you should be aware of and something you should definitely be conscientious of.

    • Very good 👏

  • 1. It's a good thing to be scared of STDs and anything similar
    2. Prevention is better than cure, better safe than sorry etc applies to it alright
    3. Most STDs are passed on through semen, blood & vaginal secretions while there are those that can be passed on by kissing, cuts (blood) etc
    4. Some are lucky to get away from unprotected sex while others are not
    5. Women generally are more affected by STDs than men www.cdc.gov/.../STDs-Women-042011.pdf

    • If you check my update and the condoms' success ratio (98%) the risk is extremely scanty.

    • I agree but there are times when things happen while you least expect it and one isn't expected to carry condoms all the while (especially women for various reasons) :) hence, the scare. Also that chances of condoms breaking is fairly good too especially when the guy lasts forever, has happened with me innumerable times :) Not an argument or debate but those who are scared of STDs are rightly so, I'll leave them to that :)

  • I really don't know. When you're careful and know how to use condoms, you're probably safer than a person who only has one partner but doesn't do test and give up condoms early and based on trust.

    • Exactly! You stole my words.

  • It's not about being scared. It's just prudent.

I also fully admit I just find it a huge turn off. Healthy is appealing and attractive, unhealthy is not.

    • Of course. :)

  • Well, it's not like condoms don't break etc.

It's a risk/benefit thing. If you're risk-averse and the other person's not super hot... maybe not worth it :p

I know I'd want to be v careful, but then, I plan to live to 90 ;)

    • Haha good one :) Well, the problem is, those are super hot ;)

    • I haven't had one condom breaking in my whole life. That seems to happen mainly to others.

  • Yeah, I'm not too scared tbh. Condoms work fine.

    • I think people are inferior of casual sex, that's why nobody agreed with me.

    • They're good for protecting against hepatitis and hiv but they don't do much for the two most common diseases: hvp and genital herpes. I'm not trying to kill your mood. It's just true and I've heard a lot of stories from people that got a disease.

    • @cavmanier - Actually, it killed my mood yesterday. I was about to do it next month but now, I'm getting afraid :( I am getting weird thoughts of waiting till marriage now :/

  • Because nobody wants to have something if they can prevent it. Condoms help but it won't protect you 100 percent. I don't want to be putting myself at risk just for a lousy piece of dirty trash then wait for something clean.

    • Actually, the chances of infected partner is already very scarce in first place. And risks are always be there in every aspect of life. And condoms are 98-99% effective.

    • Ok then more infected pussy for you then. You can have it.

  • I think people who say that they don't want to sleep around because of STDs just don't want to admit that they can't get laid so they use such a pathetic excuse.
    Like me.

    • I am very glad for your honesty but I am sad because it's happening to you :/

  • Cos it's someone's Dis-Ease. :P Then that person is a haven for infested diseases

    • But.. but.. condoms?

    • Herpies can be contracted by touch :P

    • My career is in threat then :'(

  • Because a condom doesn't prevent all STDs, bro. Are you a virgin?

    • I'm virgin, this year. Is any of the other STD permanent or serious?

    • Plus STDs are gross, and some are permanent (like HIV, herpes).

    • But condoms can fairly protect from HIV?

    • Show All
  • Condoms don't protect from everything, sure it might not be a huge risk but I'm paranoid and would feel much better having the person get tested before I sleep with them.

    • Honesty at its best 👍

  • i would not risk my health for someone who could not keep it in his pants..

    • But the risk is extremely scanty.

    • no risk for my health.. ever..

    • Std rates aren't low. About 1 in 5 or 6 have genital herpes and even more have hvp. In the US at least

    • Show All
  • Some STDs can be transmitted even if you wear a condom.

    • Can or will? Are they serious?

    • You can have herpes, syphilis, warts or HPV in an area not covered by the condom.

    • Thank you so much for the information and insight guide. I'll do some research 😇 One question, are they permanent?

    • Show All
  • Condoms only reduce risk, they're not 100% effective. People get STIs while using condoms all the time.

    • Don't say all the time lol

  • Some are difficult to heal
    Some are impossible to heal
    Some can make life hell
    Some can make life end
    Some are easily transmitted
Even condoms don't protect 100% against all of them.
    That's why.

    • Sounds like a poem for December 1st :D

    • Natural talent :D

  • I'd prefer my dick to stay attached to me, thank you very much.

    • Cool story bro 😎

  • Because of the stigma surrounding them.

    • So true :)

  • well, condoms don't protect against all of them them. but the only permanent ones are herpes and hiv, so I don't think they're a huge deal.

    • Herpes can transfer even if the person is using condom, no? 😱

    • yep, it can! but a lot of the new herpes is because of oral sex

    • Ohhh yeah 😎 Back to the question then, The chances are just ~1% and it is only if your partner is infected (which is a rare thing) so, why so scared?

    • Show All
  • Condoms don't always work, unfortunately...

    • Actually, the chances of infected partner is already very scarce in first place. And risks are always be there in every aspect of life. And condoms are 98-99% effective.

  • one partner solves that STD bug

    • one clean* partner solves that STD bug

    • bingo

    • But isn't it tough?

    • Show All
  • Because some STDs are fucking vile, and promiscuous people are spreading them like candy on Halloween.

    • Any kind of disease is vile.

  • Is this a serious question?

    • ⬆One of the worst answer⬆

    • this answer is hilarious

    • @Esplorare Exactly! That's why the quality of GAG has been deteriorated because people are not here to answer and genuinely help people and they will post one sentence irrelevant answer and hunt for xper and then they will get support from the people like you. R. I. P. Old days.
