Sleep Boners? Do most guys get them during the night when they're sound asleep?

We've all heard about Wet Dreams and Morning Wood... but is it very common for a lot of guys to get random boners during the night while asleep? Guys do you ever wake up in the middle of the night and notice this? Girls, if you have a husband, boyfriend, brother, etc. Have you had this happen often? Just curious...

  • Yea it's completely normal. It's a natural part of the sleep cycle and happens several times a night. Most guys aren't aware of it happening every time because they are asleep for it.

I have had the uncommon experience of being woken up every time it happens for a few nights. I have a Prince Albert piercing, so for the first few days after I got it, the nighttime erections became painful and would wake me up. It was about 5-6 times a night. Thankfully that only lasted 4 days, then it healed enough it didn't hurt enough to wake me up anymore.

  • its extremely common for men to get erections during the night. it happens up to 5 times a night with each erection lasting up to 30 mins.

    • Cool link thanks

    • you're welcome. Sleep boners are so annoying, I sleep on my stomach so i wake up nearly every night and have to re-adjust myself because my dick ends up in a really uncomfortable position.

    • That sucks. Is it ever sexual at all?

  • I think it's common. My boyfriend often wakes up with a boner, sometimes he'll roll me over to use It and sometimes he'll do nothing about it so he just tries to go back to sleep and it eventually goes away. I think sometimes he jerks it off too.

  • Yeah, they're really common. It's to make sure everything is working and also helps with not peeing apparently or so I've read. From a really young age they happen. I read it was about 11 times a night on average. Pretty cool huh?

  • Notice it when we spoon while we sleep. We normally wake up in a tangle of arms and legs, I can feel if he's been roused aroused, it feels kinda good to feel his sleep or morning wood! It seldom goes to waste!!! = }

  • Yep all guys got erections when they are sleeping.
I've already felt fuckbuddies, friends, even my brother, so that's not particulary because they are horny.

    • You've felt your brothers erections?

    • @SarahsSummer I guess she keeps it in the family Lol

    • Lol she must have noticed brothers by mistake

  • I use mine to stop myself from rolling off the bed... :)

  • Yes. I believe it is just a part of his body keeping itself healthy. I have even heard mothers claim their infant sons can have night time erections like that.

  • I don't think we will get sleep boners unless we are thinking about something that would trigger it. Or urine building up in the bladder which creates pressure that will lead to an erection.

  • It helps prevent urination during sleep...

I remember one time waking up suddenly with the hardest erection of my life and a HUGE pressure to urinate. I was in awe just how much larger it was that night... still am.

    • 😂😂

  • EVERY MAN who does not have some sort of erectile dysfunction will experience nocturnal penile tumescence (AKA nocturnal erections) at least 3 times every night

it is actually a medical of erectile dysfunction. doctors will have a man tie a very loose ribbon on his flaccid penis. if he wakes up in the morning and the ribbon is still on it means he doesn't get the nocturnal erections and thus has some sort of erectile dysfunction

  • All the time! haha

  • I do have one when I sleep. What I dont understand is that in order to get a boner... it means my blood is flowing faster than normal to keep it hard... yet it is not enough to wake me up!

  • Yep, very common. Makes it hard to urinate in the middle of the night if you wake up with an erection. I have to wait for it to go down. LOL...

    • I was listening to a psychology radio talk show once, and a married lady called in and she was worried that her husband "was dreaming about other women because he developed erections during his sleep". LOL!

  • i think a man gets 4-5 errections per night? not positive, but something around that

  • Yeah from the moment I go to sleep until I get out of bed the morning I'm rock hard. It's annoying 'cause it makes it difficult to sleep.

    • You should seek immediate medical attention for an erection lasting more than four hours. ;)

    • I guess there's breaks between them but I don't notice when I'm asleep lol

  • If I'm asleep I wouldn't know, LOL. I have seen a tv show on human sexuality that said the average guy get like 3-4 per night.

  • My ex's all got them all the time, think it's normal.

  • I notice my boyfriend to get hard when I wake up beside him in the morning. It's like he knows I just woke up even if he's asleep. I guess you would know where that leads:)

  • yeah, it's largely due to needing to pee. The pressure on the prostate stimulates the erection neurons, or something. That and we are very relaxed.

    That's my guess, anyway..

  • How would i know? I'm asleep! 😂

I do almost always have one when i wake up in the morning though, so maybe i do get em while I'm asleep.

  • It actually happens during EVERY REM cycle while you are asleep. So that's about once every 90 minutes.

I would say that is common.

  • Yeah most men have whats called a boner cycle. Think of it as a nightly reboot and troubleshoot just for the sake of keeping itself in check. It theweiners own biological way of keeping itselg healthy and men have no control over this function. Its where NRBs come from too during the day. (No Reason Boners)

  • When the male brain enters REM sleep (the dream state), brainwaves change and the penis erects. If a guy doesn't experience any nighttime boners, then there is something physically wrong with him.

  • Every guys does. And they are um... convenient too. :)

  • Yea there pretty normal. I have one almost every morning and even if I wake up randomly in the middle of the night there usually be one. It can suck if your sleeping on your belly.

    • Oh I don't know if you care or not but since you mentioned wet dreams. If I do have a wet dream I usually wake up without morning wood.
