Why are human penises so much bigger than most animal penises?

All the rather uninformed answers here makes me wonder where the educational system is going these days. Size of genitalia varies widely among species of similar relative mass- it's a chiefly genetic trait affected by a variety of factors, including environment and heredity, to name two of many.
A few answers here noted as a contributing factor the sexual tendencies of our species that developed as a result of the increased usage of those organ systems, and that is, at least in part, factually correct.

There's several factors. For one, since we walk upright a larger penis helps advertise our sexual prowess to prospective mates. Second, a larger penis helps with regulation of body temperature.

As far as I remember, testicles also vary in size due to reproductive competition. For example, silverback gorillas face very little competition, so their penis and testes are smaller. And conversely, male animals who face greater competition feature larger sex organs.

Well... horses are better hung. I'd imagine elephants and other animals of similar size are as well.
Other than that, humans will have bigger penises than animals who are smaller than us in general because the size of the genitals will be relative to the body parameters. So you're not going to get a rabbit, for example, rocking an 8 incher.

I think I remember reading in one of my health books that the larger species of dogs, like great danes, huskies, all those larger breeds - I remember the average for them being 7 inches, and the girth being much wider + it swells within the female (I used to breed dogs so I've seen some things ;( ) lmao

If we're talking about size compared to the scale of the animal, human beings are up there, but there's really no reason for it, except evolutionarily speaking, it makes it easier to get laid and human women are among the most difficult to please. I think you meant we have the biggest dicks out of the great ape species, since we definitely don't have some of the biggest dicks in the animal kingdom.

People theorize that it's either to regulate heat (lol) or because women like bigger dicks, so it's more like a lion's mane in that it's just a product of sexual selection (most likely). We don't have the same sort of social hierarchy that other apes have, in that we don't live in troops with an alpha that fucks all the broads, so broads get to choose who they sleep with (this is why gorillas have 1 inch penors, there's no opportunity or need for their dinks to be big since they have no competition).

Humans are one of the rare species that mates for pleasure and doesn't have a mating season. So as to enjoy it, early humans females would have probably picked the better endowed males and so those genes become dominant.
