Guys, how often do you have "morning wood"? Girls, how often has/have yr guy (s) had a morning erection?

My husband almost never wakes up with an erection -- literally less than once a year. He certainly has no problems with erectile or sexual function, nor are his hormones out of balance, so... eh. From my experience with other boyfriends, too, I've found that morning erections are far from universal. I'd say that more boys regularly woke up without them than with them. But... people seem to talk about "morning wood" as though it's something that happens to almost every dude, almost every morning. Some people even seem to think it's a problem if a guy DOESN'T get an erection (almost) every morning. Guys— How often? And how old are you (over 25 or under 25)? Girls— What's been yr experience? (If yr experience is sufficiently diverse, please pick the poll option that corresponds to a majority of yr experience.)

  • Every morning. But there is a biological reasoning behind it...

I had noticed that it goes away really quickly, and that I almost always wake up with an urge to pee. I also noticed that if I had peed in the middle of the night, the wood usually doesn't appear.
I also noticed that when we hold it in too long (in any time or situation), we greatly contract the muscles in that area, and an erection usually occurs... let's call it "piss boner"...
So, it's easy to think that the morning wood is just me holding it in, and once I pee, it goes away. I've also seen people saying that it has nothing to do with that, and that it's because we get up, and blood starts circulating faster to other parts that need it more. And because of this reason, I always thought the pee thing was just me.

But recently on GaG, I've seen someone quote some study that supports what I said in the beginning. That it's caused by our muscles during our sleep trying prevent us from waking up with a wet bed, and that causes the wood. But it's not super super hard. It's just mildy hard and I usually do nothing about it and it goes away quickly. But if I think about it, it gets super super in no time. So, it's a good starter if we're in the mood.

And yes, I think it's a general thing too. Don't know how it changes with age though...

    • * Every morning ( but it's like 90 % of the days.. so )

    • Ah, i forgot to clarify, that that GaG comment mentioned that when we have wood, it's much harder to pee, and that is why we get hard while sleeping -> like an defense mechanism? dunno, but it makes sense to me

    • That's an interesting hypothesis, but, guys don't generally need an erection to hold their urine. (Also, from what I've read, the nocturnal hardness is something that comes and goes in cycles... If that hypothesis were true, then the cycles wouldn't make sense)

  • I did often enough when I was young. But once I got into my 30's not so much. It usually has to do with having to pee in the morning and I get up so often during the night to pee (due to medication and drinking a lot of pop).
after your early 20's, morning erections really don't have much to do with higher testosterone levels.
Like any erection, they are annoying if I can't do anything about it.
Erections that last too long without being resolved or sexual contact get painful.
So I would want to go to the john, not fuck.
but when I got back to bed I would want to fuck. Morning sex is awesome. nothing like some pussy to make you lighter on your toes.

  • My bfs 35 and every single morning we've been together for 2 years he's woken up hard and really horny, and he always fucks me. Most of the time i wake up to him grinding on me or trying to stuff it in. Haha My ex boyfriend who was 30, I was with him 3 years and he woke up with wood too, but he wasn't horny until I turned him into a morning sex person. He wasn't for it and then I unleashed the beast and he was all about it after.

Reading some of the comments I'm shocked, I feel kinda silly because I thought ever guy got morning wood. 😮 with my boyfriend and my ex we even had sex the night before and they still wake up like that. I gotta say I'd be disapointed if i was dating a guy and he didn't wake up with wood regularly.

    • When my husband sleeps well (which is pretty much always, these days), he's hardly even conscious for the first hour or so after he wakes up. He moves, talks, and thinks like someone who's absolutely shitfaced drunk.

    • You should just suck his dick and make a morning wood happen. Lol unless you're content with no morning sex.

    • hah. well, sometimes it's morning, sometimes it's afternoon, sometimes it's the middle of the night. (neither of us is on a 24-hour sleep/wake schedule, and, moreover, we're not on the same sleep/wake schedule as each other, either.) nah it's fine. we both have a history of pretty awful sleep disorders, and i'm the same way -- i'm practically catatonic when i first wake up. seriously, i'm pretty much a perpetually insatiable nympho slut, EXCEPT for the first 30-60 minutes after waking up. ahah so, nah, i'm fine w/it

  • My guys favorite is morning sex and he has morning wood every morning I'm there so I assume morning wood means horny for sex.
I asked a similar question a while back and learned not all guys have morning wood
    www.girlsaskguys.com/.../q1875966-guys-who-had-a-boner-today

    • hah, I clicked and read that question, and I got confused for a sec... I saw "mate" and interpreted that as what it means everywhere except north america (= bro, friend, buddy) I was like huh? lol. IKR? I feel like this is one of those things that people don't know that they should... kinda like the fact that not every virgin has an intact visible hymen (and that every girl with an intact visible hymen isn't necessarily a virgin)

    • Oh sorry. I guess I should've used significant other or SO... Rereading it with the other mindset was a bit weird. Lol.

    • yah ahah I usually write "partner", but, anyone with two functioning neurons will get yr drift so it's alright <3

  • I wake up with a morning erection every day. I'm always ready to have sex with my girlfriend, so to me it doesn't affect my desire for her.
Some days (not very often) the erection is so hard that it's uncomfortable.

  • I get a morning erection almost every day when I wake up. I also get them after I've had a sleep at any time of the day. If I wake up during a dream I usually have an erection, even if it wasn't about sex. The erection is usually strong and hard. It is like a nice stretch in my groin and penis and is pleasurable. My penis feels as sensual and I feel as horny as when I get an erection for sex. The only thing is it is hard to pee, but then it goes down after a few minutes.

If I'm in bed with a woman then yes, I'm horny and it makes me want to fuck. Sometimes I'll wake her up for sex. This is often the best sex, spontaneous and I'm well rested, horny and have lots of energy.

    • A stretch in yr groin AND penis! Damn sonnnn Interesting, thanks for sharing

  • I don't now atm.

  • Everyday. Which makes it awkward when I have 5 minutes to leave the house and WULP , looks like I'm tightening the belt and hoping little Azgeda won't be popping out to say hello.

    • ahah "little azgeda"

    • The misfortune of little azgeda popping his head out in public for fresh air like "HELLO WORLD!"

  • My boyfriend doesn't wake up with them very often.

  • every day at 49, yes they are pleasurable. its an indicator of testosterone, stress, condition, etc..

    • That's the myth, but, my husband has very high T levels (typically between 1000-1100 ng/dl total T, between 20-22 ng/dl free T, labwork at least monthly), he's in awesome physical condition, and we don't have much stress in our lives. He has VERY low bodyfat -- under 10 percent, even at his age (he turns 47 next month) -- and he always has as long as I've known him, so, mb that has something to do with it, I dunno. But the factors you mentioned definitely can't account for the difference/variation.

    • true. you mean he doesn't have this or he can't may them stay up or what? issues do star to show up, I just answered your base question not the full spectrum. maybe private message...

  • Guys 22 and under, most days it seems. LOL.

  • It's rare for the most part.

  • yep it's usually that they get it every day lol

  • Every single damn morning. Tired of it already.

  • Every day. I don't pay attention to them, it's just something normal in the mornings, so no, they're not painful, but they can be pleasurable, depends on how hard I am when I wake up.
If I wake up next to a girl, yeah, morning wood makes me want to fuck.

  • I've never really counted. It's not every day, but more frequent than once a month. I dunno. Once a week maybe?

  • Honestly, not as much as I used to. I would say about 4-5 times a month a most. I'm turning 36 very, very, soon :(

    • Hey, I'm 41 and life is still getting better and better for me. And men are supposed to be the ones who get better with age, so, that emoji tells me yr doing something wrong ahah

  • Almost every day at 27, but the difference is it calms down much faster, I used to have to stand in the toilet for a good 5 mins before I could pee in my late teens and early twentys. I don't get it if we have sex the previous evening though.

It's perfectly normal to slow down as you get older.

    • oh man. having to push ur ass outt so u could bend ur dick down just enuff.

  • not nearly as much as when i was 20 but it depends on how bad i have to pee when i wake up

  • The younger you are the more likely you will have morning wood, but even at my age I find I get it if I have had a good sleep.
Morning wood is caused by a guys full bladder putting pressure on his prostate gland, it will disappear if he has to go to the bathroom, unless he is just horny.

  • I do not wake up with erecrions per se but I do wake up extremely horny and assuming I am not in a rush, I'll usually masturbate twice.

    • Intense! How long does that take? Do you have a refractory period in between?

    • If I'm in no rush, half an hour to forty five minutes. If I am in a rush then I'll do it quickly in a matter of fifteen minutes. The refractory period depends on how horny I am. Like if I got done seeing sexy Instagram models, I don't need it. But if I have no such stimulation then I need it.

    • Interesting.

  • Come on OP. You of all people should know being hard doesn't mean the guy wants to fuck.

    • I know it doesn't work that way for everyone, yeah lol. But I was wondering whether it was accompanied by any horniness, in general. The opinions seem to be split on that.

  • It happens pretty much everytime I get a good nights sleep, I think this is the time when REM sleep is more prominent and when im refreshed it almost always occurs.
If I wake up after 5 or 6 hours its much less likely.

  • Hey red eye

I usially get morning wood. Its not painful or pleasurable, it just is. It doesn't make me want sex.
