Have you ever had excessive bleeding while on the implant?

I've had the Nexplanon implant since 29th January. After a week I had my period for about 3 weeks. I was period free for only one week and half, then got my period again up till now. Im worried why am I bleeding so much? I have booked an appointment to see the doctor but it's a long waiting list so I have to wait a week before I can see my doctor. The reason why I'm on this implant is so I can be intimate with my partner but what's the point if I can't even have sex because of my period. Has this happened to you? If yes how did you deal with it? Does this only happen for the first few months for first time users? Advice please

  • I got mine on Valentines day this year after I had my daughter mid December and got my period last Monday and still on it now. My mood swings have been an outrageous tunnel vision rage but if it stops my period sometime soon, I can put up with a couple months of bleeding. I had the depo shot before and was on my period for nine months straight and there wasn't any way to stop that contraceptive the way I can with the implant. I was told to give nexplanon at least six months to work properly.

    • Also, a little blood never hurt anybody 😂😂 I've been with my man for almost three years and he saw me give birth. Just wear a condom.

  • About 1% of users have this problem. My sister and sister in law both have/had it. My sister in law got it right after birth of my niece #2, she bled for 12 weeks straight and had it removed. Was told she fit into the 1% of women who have this problem. My sister though has had it for 1.25 years and bleeds about twice a year.
Me, I've had it for 2 months and am ending my 8 day streak of bleeding. So, well see.

  • It's just your body adjusting to the raised hormone levels, the doctor may prescribe you a pill that'll stop the bleeding and you should be A-okay after that! <3

  • I haven't experienced this while on the implant. Good luck.

  • I’ve been using the implant for almost 10 years. What you’re describing is completely normal. I went through it too. It’s just your body adjusting to the contraceptive xx

  • It reacts differently for different people. This is clearly how it reacts with you so i suggest getting it removed and trying a different BC.

The implanon completely stopped my periods, other than one here n there that lasts only a couple days.

  • This is why I’m on the copper IUD 😂

  • No and if you do you need to see your doctor

  • I don't use the implant

  • Yeah I have and after 3 months it settled down I went back to the clinic though so please do the same

  • Nope

  • i had mine 1st November, 12th November bled until around 15th December and haven’t bled since and mine is also my first implant so it’s more than likely just your body adjusting etc x
