Why is sperm so sticky and stringy?

Is there a scientific reason for that or is it just one of life’s mysteries?

  • Semen is a product of several things. Normal semen contains of milky clear fluid from the prostrate and seminal vesicles. This stingy jelly is actual sperm. Actually it is a product of secretions from the testicles , prostrate , seminal vessicles and the cowper's gland along with mucous from the urethra. They contain carbohydrates and more of proteins. Protein nature makes the seminal fluid viscid , thick and stingy. The features of semen among men widely vary and even change from time to time depending on age. Consistency of an ejaculation may be sticky and/or slimy. This can be an indication of hydration status , protein content , sperm concentration , etc. Thick viscous semen consists of mucous fluid and clumps of thick mucoid material. When it comes out it is alcaline. Vagina is acidy and activates it Vagina has enzymes to help sperm. after ejaculation these components are mixed together in vagina. they liquify after 15 to 20 minutes and it becomes stingy. That's how sperm makes it past the cervix and up the uterus for fertilization.

  • Enough semen leaks out of the vagina already, and that’s WITH semen being as sticky as it is. Can you imagine if it wasn’t sticky? There’d be nothing left inside to fertilize the egg.

So it’s sticky because SOMETHING has to stay behind, in order to give fertilization a chance. Soren are slow swimmers. It can take them DAYS to find the egg. They need that stickiness to buy them some time in there!

And if the woman manages to keep the guy’s semen inside of her for even just a few minutes, then it becomes even gummier and stickier due to a chemical reaction between the semen and her vaginal fluids. This chemical reaction exists to help ensure that as many sperm cells as possible will get stuck inside of her, increasing the odds of conception even further.

So like most things with the human body, this feature does have an important and practical purpose! :)

    • Soren = autocorrected Sperm if you couldn’t figure that out haha. Sorry for any confusion!

  • You mean seminal fluid.
Sperm only make up 1-5% of semen
What Are The Ingredients Of Semen?
Very simply put, seminal fluid is primarily comprised of water, proteins, fructose, and there are of course many other components, such as minerals, vitamins, and various other micronutrients.

  • Because everything about men is gross.

    • Oh boy.

    • *FEMINIST ALERT*

    • And you wouldn’t have it any other way!

  • To better the chances of fertilizing the egg.. the consistency helps with it clinging to and moving through the membrane of the vag.. I'm no doctor but that sounds good lol

  • The viscosity/density I would assume, there is scientific reasoning behind it, there is for everything, but i'm not too sure. The molecules that make up sperm will just form that way

  • It contains sugars and proteins. But very thick and stringy suggests he is not properly hydrated. Club soda or Powe Aid will help.

  • I guess, during evolution that was the most successful option.
One other reason: so that you don't confuse it with milk.

  • The sperms are designed to be ejaculate inside the vagina so whatever it's composed off it was all so the sperms can survive and swim to the girl's ovaries

  • Next time use a condom.

  • Ask Google

  • so you can enjoy it more

  • We’re all actually Spider-Man, but we don’t know it yet. We haven’t figured out how to shoot the web out of our arms yet so comes out of our penis.

  • Just one of life’s mysteries

  • Google is the answer. You have accurate answer there.

  • From my understanding there is cum is a mix of sperm and basically food for the sperm so it can stay alive and healthy.

  • So it has a chance to fertilize an egg. If it were watery, it would fall right out the vagina, it has to have some chance by design to fight gravity and interact with its surroundings
