Why do girls think think their own menstrual blood is disgusting?

Because semen has evolved to be ejaculated into a vagina, and is therefore actually VERY CLEAN. Menstural blood is evolved to come OUT of a vagina, because it's waste; it's more-or-less a dead skin pulp. That's gross.

You mean, in the form of tampons? Welllll... where do I start... Well, to the best of my knowledge, tampons have NO chemicals. Besides, moisterisers contian more chemicals, like triglycerides, that can cause ovarian and testicular cancers and are guaranteed to reduce fertility. Now: big, fat, awkward to walk in, heat/nappy-rash-causing, slimy, wet, sticky, dirty pad that is covered in spent blood, vs hidden tampon that can stay in place for up to 8 hours, doesn't smell, or leak (unless you leave it in too long) won't slip out, can be swam with, doesn't feel like a surfboard between your legs... hmm, I think I'll choose tampons thanks...

If I was bleeding as much as I do during my period, REGARDLESS of where the blood was actually coming from; I would shower, not bathe. And I would not have a bath in water containing sperm either, unless I was gonna have a shower after to wash it off.

I'm PRETTY sure most **normal** guys wouldn't wanna sit on a pad covered with their own old, sticky blood all day. And fyi, guys ARE grossed out by the idea. Go try and find a guy willing to bathe with you and your menstrual-bloodied-water. Or that's willing to be "squited all over their body" with it. Or who wants to touch it, or even see a bloody pussy. Unless they are outside average, or have a fettish, they won't wanna do ANY of the above. I have HEAPS of guy friends, so this is me speaking from experience. Have you ever actually asked a guy about it?

Actually... they are. That there is BLOOD. And blood, when it leaves the body, goes off. It begins to clot AS SOON as it leaves the body. And why do you think people change bandages often? To avoid infection. Blood also begins to smell once it clots or leaves the body. And it smells BAD, especially when mixed with a female's other vaginal discharges.Which smell fine on their own, just not mixed with blood!

Once again; this is just my opinion. If you disagree, good for you, but this is just what **I** think. I hope it didn't sound rude. And I hope this helps you understand why so many girls are grossed out by it :)

Well semen isn't your own body's secretions therefore it would seem like it would be less gross. Yes there are chemicals in most tampons, bleach being one of them. The absorbs all of your healthy bacteria and throw of your pH. I'm just saying it's not gross to wear pads. Some guys have sex with girls while they're on their period, which which is evidence that they don't really think it's gross and it's not even their own secretions. A menstruating vagina isn't the same as an open wound lol

Lol. That's not why I don't mind semen though. Semen is supposed to go inside the body and is therefore very clean. Menstural blood is meant to go out because it is dead and no longer needed. And trust me, I really don't care about my own body's secretions, not even blood. But menstural blood cells in particulalar are already dead by the time they leave the body, so ew no I don't wanna handle that more that neccessary. A fresh wound has live blood cells that haven't started decomposing yet...

Im not that grossed out by my peiod. Its natural. But as far as feeling comfortable with touching it and stuff, it makes sense o me. Semen is somethig that is sexual. Menstrual blood is as unsexual as you can get- you're not fertile during your period so you're not "meant" to be sexual at that time.

I think it IS a little unsanitary. It's blood. It can collect bacteria and things like that. It's possible for both semen and menstrual blood to contain STDs and infections, but menstrual blood is more likely to contain bacteria that isn't meant to be spread around (semen is made to be safe enough to go into the vagina).

That said, I wear pads a lot- and when I wear tampons, they are natural unbleached ones (so are my pads, I'm allergic to those chemicals).

I wasn't saying menstrual blood is sexual. I was only comparing them because girls seem to think their own secretions are more gross than someone else secretions. All secretions contain bacteria. Even your saliva, yet no one is grossed out about there being saliva in their mouths. Yes blood can contain those things but I am talking about one's own blood. Of course another person's menstrual blood is disgusting because you don't know what they have.

I do NOT hate my body. I'm not grossed out by my period- I just don't want to, say, take a bath in it. And there's nothing wrong with that. Yes, all secretions can contain bacteria, STDs, etc. But there's a difference between something that is biologically designed to be touched, spread, etc (semen) and something that is not. Menstrual blood is more unsanitary than semen because it is not "prepared" in a way that is meant to make it as safe as possible for human contact.

It is something that is intended to be eliminated. Like urine or feces. I am not grossed out by my body. I embrace what is natural a lot more than the average person in our modern western society.

I'm sorry but I don't get how touching someone else's secretions is more gross than touching my own. To me that's like preferring to use someone else's toothbrush over your own. My germs will always be less gross than another person's germs.

It's great that you're accepting of your body and you want other girls to be as open as you are. But I feel that you're going overboard a bit. Menstrual blood IS different from many other secretions- in fact, it's not really a secretion. A secretion is something that is secreted by glands. Menstrual blood is the lining of your uterus.

I get what you're saying. But keep in mind that some bacteria is harmless, while some is deadly. No one cares about the bacteria in our mouths because it is beneficial. But the bacteria that can grow in menstrual blood is another story- you know what toxic shock syndrome is right?

Yeah but usually the TSS happen because of rayon in tampons. TSS rarely happens with organic tampons and very rarely happens with pads. So if anything rayon tampons are gross.

TSS happens because after a certain amount of time, bacteria will grow on the tampon. I don't know if the type of tampon has an effect, I have never heard of that. But there is a chance of TSS with ANY tampon. Menstrual blood is waste that needs to be eliminated, like pee. I'm not grossed out by it, but I'm not gonna love it. Just as I would rather lick someone else's saliva than I would my own pee, I would rather lick someone's semen than I would my own menstrual blood.

Not all body fluids are created equal. You can be okay with your menstrual blood if you want. But don't make out like there's something wrong with the rest of us.

If it is a stranger heck yeah I'd swallow my own pee. The person could have herpes. Not to mention urine is sterile. You're right about all body fluids not being equal. That's why toothbrushes are reusable and baby diapers are disposable. I don't know about you but I'll take my own germs over someone else's germ. I think any sane person would do the same.

Well, urine is sterile when it is produced, but it moves through your body so it's impossible for it not to pick up some bacteria on it's way out.

Because it is a uncontrolled mess! No matter what pad I wear, blood always get son my underwear. The blood as goes up my butt, so I always have to wipe than when I go to the bathroom. If you have pubes, the blood gets stuck in your hair & hurts like a mother. The blood ruins your bed sheets. The blood ruins your PJs. There is much blood, it is insane! I hate my period & wish there was a way to permanently stop it!

When we are sexually aroused we are less likely to be disgusted. Conversely when we are disgusted we are less likely to become aroused. During sex its more likely that you do actions which you would normally find disgusting (like having someone put their tongue in your mouth).

I never heard anyone saying that they were grossed out by their period...I mean I heard people tell gross stories relating to their periods. By they way, menstrual blood is unsanitary...it can harbour bacteria, besides, the smell of it is rotten.
