Trying out the diva cup?

So to all the girls out there. I'm wondering if anyone has tried the diva cup. I've literally just ordered one and I'm wondering if you prefer it to a tampon or a pad.

If you've tried it let me know!

  • I tried it when I was your age. It was confusing and very tricky at first. Watch some videos and read many instructions online. Once you understand the best way to insert it and that it needs suction and the right angle to catch everything, it all seems to be swell.
For me I ended up hating it. Sometimes I'd have to spend 10-15 mins longer in the bathroom trying to wrestle that thing out and that entails reaching into your tender sore vagina with a finger or two. Taking it out because the angle was wrong and trying over and over again in and out. The suction would be too strong and no matter how many times I broke the seal (pressing it in so that it would get out of shape and be easier to slide out) I could feel the silicone pulling at me in the inside. I eventually would start having lots of pain down there and sex was painful for a year after I stopped using it. I'm all good downstairs luckily and all testing came back clear, but to this day I get strange numb pains inside and that didn't really happen until I had the cup.

So your hands have to be super clean always when changing it or inserting it. Many sources said boiling it in hot water was a good way to clean between uses so I did that but I don't think that worked out for me. I remember having an itch after using it and my period ended. Like the silicone was either irritating me from all that scraping or boiling it wasn't the right way to clean. You should use the cleaning solution that the company suggests just to be 100% safe, even though it's pricey.

    • Oh also, I couldn't even masturbate while I was a divacup user because I would start bleeding if I put my hands inside. It was just not a good experience for me like it was other women.. I'm just so glad I'm mostly back to normal after using it.

    • Ohh. The masturbating part kinda made me feel like "noooooooo" hahaha.

    • Lol you might have a stronger vagina than I do but yes that's definitely a possibility. I thought I was falling apart. I used it for 6 months or so before giving up.

  • My body started having negative reactions to all of the chemicals used in pads and tampons so I decided to give the cup a try. I went for a cheaper knock-off version (only $10! And still medical-grade silicon!) because I wasn't sure how I would like it. Took me about two cycles to get used to it but after that I freaking loved it. Paid for itself really quickly because I no longer needed to buy so many pads and tampons each month. I can go for much longer periods of time without worrying about it. Really nice to not have to carry pads and tampons everywhere. Super comfortable to wear if it's inserted properly. I even noticed my cramps eased up quite a bit. Plus they're SO much friendlier on the environment (and your wallet and your body)! I tell everyone I can about how great they are and love to see that they're gaining so much popularity!

  • I use an iris cup and I LOVE it. It doesn’t smell like pads and tampons. It’s super easy to clean and once you get used to it super easy to use.

They can even help a little with cramps!

    • Omg. It helps with cramps!,? Ok. I gotta try this

    • It’s not like a LOT. But it can help take the edge off

  • I use the disposable cups (looking at buying a DivaCup, but they’re more expensive than I’m comfortable with spending), and I love them ❤️

The disposable and reusable are different functionally from what I’ve read, but I like it because it allows me to track my flow more easily than with tampons. It can be a little messy, so be prepared, but I think it’s a good investment 👍

    • One tip I’ve read about that seems to be really useful is to cut the stem a little if it’s uncomfortable; it tends to poke 😝

  • I've been using it for over a year and for me it works just fine. I have a pretty heavy flow, so it helps with that because I don't have to run to the toilet every two hours to change my tampon and on light days it doesn't dry me out.
However it takes some adjusting to, especially putting it in and taking it out. It took me a while but by now both takes about a min or two max and I instinctively know when it's in the right position and seals everything (btw it kinda plops open in you and you'll feel that. I think it's a little painful but it isn't so bad that I couldn't deal with it).
Also I didn't get the diva cup but some sort of cheap alternative so I only payed about half the amount a diva cup usually costs I think.

    • Yeah because I have a heavy flow so I'm thinking maybe this will be better

    • Oh on that front it definitely made my life 100% better. I used to have to change the sheets at least twice when on my period, depending on how many heavy days I had. I think it the little over a year that I use a cup it overflowed at night maybe two or three times.

    • Wow. That like super worth it. To think about it. It's cheaper and better since you don't like "destroy the environment" with our period soaked tampons and pads hahahah. But as long as you clean it properly I guess

  • For me it was difficult to put in and to take out, and brought me so much pain and discomfort that I never used them again. I use these cotton tampons that don’t bleach your vagina like the normal tampons do.

  • What’s that?

    • It's like a rubber cup you put in your vagina when you have your period

  • never heard of it

  • didn't enjoy it

    • Why so?

  • wasn't right for me. didn't work like i thought

    • What happened?

    • Not the best to use in public when you need to clean is and then reinsert. Plus I had a hard time getting it in properly. Not worth the hassle for me.

  • It's a little hard to put in at first, I found I need to use a little bit of lube. Once I got used to it it became a lot easier to get in. Also just warning you, do not pull this thing out unless you are in a bathroom where you can safely go wash it out without people seeing! It may sound obvious but everyone I know who uses one, myself included, have accidentally pulled it out in a public bath room then not known what to do

    • Hahahah. Nice tip. Yeah I would figure that it would like make a plop sound. And like. Blood will come out.

    • when u take it out does it become messy? I mean I don't think I bleed the same as the size of the cup , so that cup is likely going to be full in 2 hours and further it is going to block the blood coming out , is that healthy?

    • It surprisingly holds a lot of blood, stays in, and won't leak all day if you have it at the right angle inside you but I wore pads just to be safe. It made me think I was only bleeding from one spot after I got the hang of it. You break the seal by gently pushing it inward and you hear it make like that suction cup sound, and you can steadily ease it out without much spillage but since you're literally reaching into yourself your hands are going to be messy. You pour the blood into a toilet and if you're in a public restroom have an emergency period kit with you (include flushable wipes, bottle of water, and divacup cleaning solution in it). Wash your hands before using the restroom. If you're in public open the wipes first, then take out the cup. Pour out blood. Wipe off yourself, hands, and cup with the wipes. Clean off the cup with the cleaning solution and then the bottle of water and reinsert it. Then use a hand sanitizer and more wipes before you touch anything.
