Is it bad that I lied to my doctor?

Last year I began having sex. I've gone to the doctor for physicals. Each time they've asked me if i had sex I told them no. They never really checked my vagina so they dont know that I am lying. Should I have said yes? I dont really want my mother knowing. Especially since the guys are older.

  • Obviously you shouldn't lie but I can understand that you don't wnat your parents to know. However there is one person you absolutely never should lie to and that is your doctor as he can only help you if he knows what's going on. With sex it's mainly important to let the doctor know because of birth control and stds which in my opinion everyone should be tested for regularly.
In a big part of the world doctors are not allowed to tell anything about their patients to anyone.

  • Yes.
Why would you lie to your doctor?
He's not even ALLOWED to say what you talk to him to your mom.
Oh, wait... You're under 18. Okay, he probably could tell her.
But you should still tell him. Your health is no joke.
If it's nothing, you can probably ask him not to tell. He's a doctor so the practitioner-patient confidentiality ethic shouldn't be unknown to him.

    • I know I should tell the truth but I'm scared. I'm 16 and I'm doing all the wrong things and my mom is always on my back and I hate disappointing her but I can't help it.

    • You choose. If the risks outweigh the benefits, then do what you will.

  • Not sure what the deal is with patient confidentiality and under 18s but I’m sure he won’t tell your mum. You have to be honest with doctors even if they don’t do a physical.

  • Oh hell yes. Even if there's nothings wrong doesn't mean you shouldn't get your vag checked. Usually it's confidential but it depends on your age.

  • i would be honest. it could impact his exams or advice given. i rather doubt he'd tell your mother, especially if you asked him to be discrete with the info

  • Its ok to lie if your mom would find out but if your alone if tell the doc and be truthfu

  • Tell your doctor the truth. He is not going to tell your mother.

  • Meh you're a idiot why lie but hay can't stop people from being stupid

    • You're an asshole. Obviously I'm a teen and I'm scared. We make mistakes.

    • That's a pretty stupid mistake and scared over what truth🤣

  • Your doctor won't tell your mother. That's a serious breach of professional ethics. So you should tell your doctor the truth -- that you are sexually active.

    • i think her mom accompanies her into the doctors room.

  • Nah that's not bad.
if you don't want them to know don't tell them.

But they shouldn't be able to tell your parents unless if it is something that can cause harm to others or youself.
    So they wouldn't find out.

Also you might need them to check it every once in a while.

Dunno what age your are and how legal it in your place to have sex at that age so i would say if you underage then don't say is the smartest choice.

  • I see no reason to if you don't have issues.

  • Your doctor can't treat you properly if you lie to him. He can't legally tell your parents anything (in the USA and I'm sure also many other places)

  • It's okay to lie as long as you are having safe sex. It probably would be better though to be forthcoming with the doctor.

  • The doctors and even a random person with a sharp eye can gather if you have sex or no just by looking at your eyes and face, also you need to tell your doc everything, they will keep a secret if you ask them to

  • You should of tell them.

  • Your a bad girl for lying to your Dr. Shame Shame.

  • Tell your doctor. If they don't know, then they won't give you birth control and or std tests. In many nations, it's entirely confidential between you and your doc.

  • Never lie to your doctor

  • Yes. It matters. It would be suddenly awkward if a virgin girl ended up miscarrying or having an STI

    • How is she a virgin if she had sex?

    • If she says she hasn't had sex, the doctor will be under the impression she is a virgin.

  • You should always be honest with your doctor. Lying to them will only hurt yourself in the long run for whatever problem it is you are going for. If you don't want your mother knowing, just go in alone.

  • Yes it is bad. Now they don't know everything to check for and could have declared you fully healthy when you may not be. The most common symptom of STDs is no symptoms. That is why doctors ask this question so they know whether or not to do the checks.

  • It’s important that you’re honest with them. You’re only putting yourself at risk by lying.
