I'm a guy who's into this, and I've known other guys who were as well. I think it is kind of a power thing for me. I've brought guys down with ball kicks when sparring, but it was always accidental. Still I am absolutely amazed on how effective groin kicks are. I mean even a well placed tap put guys out of the match sometimes. If they're not wearing a cup (lots don't) they can really get hurt.
