Being impregnated during a rape is just like getting a flat tire?

According to Kansas state Rep. Pete DeGraaf, becoming impregnated from rape is like a getting flat tire. He believes that women should 'prepare' for rape.

Do you think it's a fair comparison? How does it make you feel to know a government official has the audacity to say this?

Seriously, he has life insurance to prepare for death, and a spare tire in his car, why shouldn't we 'prepare' for rape? Women, please expect to be raped! It's common sense, prepare yourselves!

"How do women plan ahead for rape?" By taking precautions, of course! Women should never appear in public without a brother, father, husband or son to guard them. Women shouldn't try to be so independent; a woman who drives a car or knows how to read is just pure temptation for those lustful men. Women should also stop dressing so suggestively; burqas are now available in many attractive shades of black and dark gray!

Here's the article:

Rape is the ONLY crime where the victim is deemed the one to be guilty.

In addition to the questions I've already asked, how you suggest we "prepare for rape?"

Perhaps these? link

  • I talk to my mom and the women in my life all the time about scumbags that would commit rape. I BEG her to get a damn conceal carry license but she keeps insisting "when I'm out, I'm with your father" or "it will never happen to me". You women need to be more sensible about this. Seriously. It's not hard to buy a gun or tazer and defend yourselves from these assholes. Men are for the most part, physically stronger than women and they will get what they want if you are not armed. I agree with the article to an extent. I don't care how you women dress in public as long as you are able to pack heat. I actually think it's more important for a woman to get a CCW (conceal carry permit) than it is for a man.

    • Thats a good start, but how about we put a stop to this bull sh*t and teach men not to rape? Sounds more effective.

    • Everyone knows that rape is wrong. Men will still act on this because they know they can. I don't want to sound sexist but this is one thing that pisses me off about women. You guys NEED to protect yourselves. I don't care if you study martial arts or have taken "rape prevention classes". If a guy physically assaults you, you will not stand a chance unless you have a damn gun. They don't call it the great equalizer for nothing.

    • I don't disagree that guns would be more effective, but its silly to think the women most prone to rape can afford it, which are the poor women in the project. It's great protection if you can afford it. And no, not everyone knows its wrong. There are plenty of rape apologists walking among us. One in four women are raped, that doesn't scream that people know rape is wrong.

  • Thats a horrifying comparison and no woman should prepare for rape in the sense it could happen. I think women shouldn't be alone in questionable areas and have rape whistles and/or pepper spray, being prepared for rape in the sense of preventing it I agree with but a flat tire is good for a headache and nothing a couple bucks can't fix. Rape has been the cause of suicide and lots of people developing psychological issues because of it. So no I vehemently disagree with the comparison and the fact a government official said this is appaling.

  • Prepare for rape!? What the heck!? We shouldn't have to prepare for rape, but the sad thing is that it's out there. If I'm walking alone to my car I always hold my car key in between my middle and ring finger so I can gouge their eyes out if need be. Oh by the way, anti-rape condom ftw.

    • Yeah, the anti-rape condoms were made for virgin women in Africa who were being raped because guys thought that if you had AIDS and raped a virgin, it would be cured :| Sometimes, I question whether some people can even be considered human beings.

    • No offense but I hate when girls say this. Do you understand how hard it would be to hit such a small area especially if the element of surprise is ALWAYS on their side? If you punch him expect severe retaliation. Why not make it easier for yourself and just buy a gun? They make small caliber hand guns that are light weight and very slim. A .22 caliber to the head is much more effective than using a key to gouge someone's eye out.

    • I can't afford that, simple as that.

  • You remind me of Stephen Colbert. <3

But yeah, this guy is just another ignoramus who doesn't grasp the concept of rape or the basics of human rights.

    • Thanks ;D

  • Thats a horrible thing to say. Women shouldn't dress a certain way to avoid rape. Men should be taught how not to rape.

  • no women should have to prepare for rape that is the stupidist sh*t I have ever heard no women should ever have to even think they are going to get raped..but I guess you could take some form of dtt training it's only a 8 hour class that trains you on what to do in certain holds and when someone grabs in

  • I don't think he meant that Rape is only as bad as getting a flat tire.I think he was only comparing the two as things people would not normally expect.

  • Sounds like he is good willing, but has a terrible way with words in the public scene where the media will blow up everything you, he's right tho, think about this saying, imagine I'm talking from a ghetto where there is lots of gang violence "murder is like getting a flat tire, you need to be prepared, don't wear gang colours and don't walk around at night on your own"

It sounds like common sense right? The reality is the world is not always a happy place and I'm sure he is doing everything to help make it better, but reality is reality and if you ignore it and start attacking people who actually come out and say REALITY and not a candy filled ver of reality "Women should feel safe walking alone everywhere, go out ladies and dress as prevocative as you can and make sure you are alone taking the side streets" that sounds worse to me

    • So not only should I walk in constant fear of being raped, its my fault for dressing provocatively and walking alone? How about we just stop blaming the victim, be a man and make sure to educate young men that rape is WRONG under ANY circumstance?

    • And trust me, I get it: time and place are important. I know I should be aware and what not, but I should not expect to be raped, and statements like his make it seem like it's not their fault for raping me.

    • 64% of women were victimized by a current or former husband, cohabiting partner, boyfriend, or date as of 2009. Doesn't sound like my miniskirt and heels are the problem here.

  • When are people going to learn? Republicans are horrible horrible people (the Republican politicians that is). There are a few good ones, but very few. Sure tons of Democrats suck, but there are at least a bit more that are better.

    • I agree! I juct can't deal with those crazy f***s.

    • lol 2 republicans are mad they can't take the truth their party is full of worse people than the other. Democrats suck too, but Republicans are far worse. F***ing horrible people. Look at how they are trying to kill medicare, kill social security, kill unions, and give more of OUR tax money to the rich. Dumbass people who are blinded to Republican bullsh*t.

  • I wish there was some sort of entry exam you had to pass in order to qualify to run for elective office.

    • I absolutely agree with that.

    • who cares

  • hahaha, are you sure he didn't mean by having a weapon. Flat tire=Tire iron, Women= mace?

    • I'm sure to a degree he does believe that as well, which isn't entirely unreasonable. But overall he meant what he said :P

  • Maybe he is secretly Jon Kyl and he didn't intend it to be a factual statement

  • You shouldn't bother about this. Some politicians haven't even been to school

    • It's disgusting. Makes me want to pop all of tires and write " YO TIRES JUST GOT RAPED, BITCH" all over his car.so angry :c

  • I didn't read the whole thing nor did I click the links, but I don't get what you so upset about. People should always be cognizant of their surroundings and who they deal with. What's wrong with saying that?

Also, what's with the "men should be taught not to rape" thing? We know its wrong and most will not rape someone. Its a few that do and you can't really stop it. Some guy some where will rape some girl. That's just how it is.

    • Just because you don't care to fix it doesn't mean it's not a problem.

    • Fix what? Rape? I know its a problem, but how do you propose we fix it? Like I said, we are told that rape is wrong. Most of us will not do it.

    • By educating men on the issue. They do it all over the UK and in parts of south America. And they have lower rapes per capita. There are ways, people are told rape is wrong yet we stand in 9th place for the highest rape rate in the world. It's not okay.

    • DeGraaf, who is in his first term and who is an associate pastor, also called for banning coverage for abortions of rape pregnancies. (Women could get around this if they purchased separate, "abortion-only policies.") THIS IS THE PROBLEM WHEN RELIGIOUS NUTCASES GET ELECTED. FIRST TIRM WILL BE HIS LAST.

    • I really hope so, but that he's been elected at all makes me weary.
