What does the bra size measurement mean?

i know the letter is for cup size, "A" being smallest cup size. by cup size, do they mean the size of the actual breast? so what does the number mean? i know that women have to measure twice: once for the circumference around the back and nipples, and the second time for the underboob region. you are free to correct me, give me examples, photos, etc.

what do you mean by back size? also, in addition to what the measurement means, how does the number affect physical appearance. lets say you have 2 women that are a 32C and a 34C. what is the difference in physical appearance?

  • Back size is what you called the 'underboob region' . link

    In addition, if you have two women who are 32C and 34C then the 34C woman will be slightly broader around the bust. C means that there is a two inch difference between the under bust measurement and the measurement taken at the fullest point. So it will be in proportion to the 32C but will be both 2 inches wider around the under bust and 2 inches fuller in the breast. I hope that made sense.

    One thing I didn't know and found out recently was 32C is smaller than a 36B -- The band width is smaller on the 32C and so is the cup volume (apparently it's just deeper). Some girl told me that at Victoria's Secret.. It still confuses me. :$ I just get fitted and go with whatever they tell me.

  • The number is the rib cage measurement. I'm a 32B, so my rib cage is 32 inches all the way around. The B is just a letter that corresponds to an increment, so I'm larger than an A but smaller than a C.

    A 32C is going to appear larger than a 34C because she has the same size breasts on a smaller rib cage.

  • Yes, A is where the breasts are very, very small. There is also AA cup, I believe, where the woman, basically, has no breasts. These women can't really get breast implants either because trying to create so much out of so little makes them look awful.

  • if I'm not mistaken, the number is the measurement from the part under her breasts and around her back while the letter or cup size is how big the actual boobs are. My understanding of it, I could be wrong.
