i have a canker sore on my lip and I kissed my boyfriend. will he get it now too?

A canker sore is an open sore inside the mouth. It is not contagious.

A cold sore is a form of the herpes simplex virus (HSV type 1). They usually appear around the lips or on the mouth. Once you get the virus, you will always have it (though outbreaks (where you actually have a sore) come and go). Cold sores can be spread through contact, kissing, sharing eating utensils/drinks. It's most contagious when you actually have a sore, but can still be spread if you don't have one. Cold sores are very common, somewhere between 20-40% of young adults have them, and by age 70, about 90% of people have them.

So, if what you have is a canker sore, then no, your boyfriend will not get it. But since you said it was on your lip, my guess is that its more likely to be a cold sore, which is contagious. That doesn't mean that your boyfriend will for sure get them, but he might.

If it's a cold sore, then yes, you would have picked it up from someone else. For example, a lot of people get cold sores as children from relatives kissing them or from sharing a spoon or drink with someone else.

Well I have cold sores for life because a guy at work and I had the same drink and I grabbed his from the cooler by accident and he had an active cold sore. So one sip and two weeks later hello cold sores:(

If it's inside your mouth, it's a canker sore and is not contagious.

If it's on the outside of your lip it's a cold sore and it is contagious.

Canker sores cannot transfer by contact. Cold sores can, because they are virus-based.

Just what I said. A cold sore is a product of a virus, and a canker sore is not. Boy I hope you know it's a canker sore for sure, otherwise you just passed on a communicable disease.
