Why do I feel weak on my period?

When on my period (the heaviest couple of days) If I'm standing for more than 2 hours straight I start to feel weak. At work I have to be on my feet the whole day, so sometimes I have crouch down on the floor for a few minutes because I feel like I would pass out if I don't. Is this normal? What can I do to help it?

  • You can even just take a general vitamin with just a little iron in it. if you take it all the time and not just that week, you will see a slight difference. and typically, as long as you don't take too many iron supplements, you won't get sick. my aunt was taking 6 a day for a few months before it made her too sick. I'm only anemic when I don't eat foods high in iron on a regular basis, and during the summer for some reason and I took vitamins with iron even when I wasn't anemic and I was fine. I even took prenatal because I ran out of mine and they have more iron in them. I just made sure to only do that every other day so I wouldn't have too much. unless you have high iron levels, a regular iron vitamin won't hurt you. and a multivitamin with a little iron will never hurt you if you take the proper dosage of one a day or even one every other day helps.

  • I feel the same way as you do. I started to take iron pills a few years ago and miracle happened. The pain is less and it improved my energy level. Take iron pills (1 per day) for all the days you are on your period.

  • I had this, and occasionally felt dizzy at other points in the month.

Go see the docs, it might be Anaemia.. it's pretty common, and just taking a pill every morning or evening can make it all go away :)

    • Are there any side effects that come with taking iron pills everyday?

    • I don't think so.. I'm one for reading all the info whenever I get new meds and there wasn't anything there to worry me.. Only effect I've found is feeling so much better, my energy levels pretty much doubled and the feeling awful on my period went away :) get them prescribed though, cos the stuff you can buy off the shelf isn't the same and iron can be dangerous if you take the wrong amounts. Talk to your doctor though, you won't regret it (:

  • You're losing blood, your body responds by feeling a little weak, sometimes a lot weak if you're bleeding heavily. Iron supplements might help, working out and getting physically stgronger would definitely help.

  • It sounds like you're anemic. You really should see a doctor about your iron levels to get things sorted out. When I feel dizzy and weak, I eat something with sugar in it.

  • Lack of iron
